Yolksack

Just had a baby hatch out a few minutes ago. The yolk sack is as big as the baby. The babies stomach is flat, baby is the tinyest I have ever seen. Should I keep him in the incubator (delicup) until the sack is absorbed? I have read about putting them on moist papertowels. I don't know about this one, doesn't look good. All the other babies hatched out have never had such a big yolksack, it's almost disturbing. Any advice would go along way.

put him in a deli cup with moist paper towel and just leave him in the incubator so that he can absorb it and only check on him through the little window on your incubator so that he won't get stressed out,Good Luck and kee us updated.

As of 3AM the yolk sack has been absorbed! I would of never believed that this tiny little baby could of taken in that whole yolk but it did. Last night I put moist paper towel in the delicup, left him in the bator. He seems very week, but I have hope that everything will be alright. I only peek through the window with a dim light as not to spook and stress him.
Thanks for the replies, will keep you all updated with pixs soon.

Update, sad to say that this little guy is totally blind. No eyelids, eyeballs are deformed too. Will have to decide whether to try to hand feed him and take care of his needs (which I will do in a heartbeat) or have him put down. Prayers for Dino please.

I have to take care of him, he is my responsibility, I brought him into the world, I will be his eyes. I look forward to helping and loving him.:D

Keep moistening his eyes. It's hard to tell with a gecko that tiny what the eye situation is. My current eye-challenged gecko hatched with one eye pretty clearly absent and one that was half-closed and didn't look so good. Two weeks later, one eye is definitely working and wide open. I still don't know about the other one but I do see a glimmer in there. She's eating on her own and growing, though.

Late last night I started putting Aqua Lube in Dino's eyes, today I started doing it 3 times aday. Looks like there is a film over the eyeballs. He is confused as to where he is. I have him in a 12 quart shoebox for now but I think what I should do is put him in something smaller as not to confuse him more then nessasary. I will put his dises and furiture in one spot and keep them there so he knows where everything is for sure.
No poop or shedding yet so I will not feed him until then? He will be easy to feed right now due to the fact that he opens his mouth the minute I touch it. This morning I gave him a drop of water this way and it seems inviting to him. I am taking him out of the rack and going to put him in my room so I can monitor him (red light at night).
How does he sleep if he can't close his eyes?
I feel so compelled to take care of this little guy. Where there is a will there will be a way.
Note; My mother and I are the only family members with sight, I take care of my blind father, I think that is why I am so determined to do this. Dino can live a good life with me, he will be my bud.
If anyone else out here can share a similar experience with a blind gecko please feel free to comment.

Update on Dino

Well the little guy is doing just ok. Doing the aqua lube 3 times a day. Tonight I am going to hand feed for the first time, but he is so small it isn't going to be easy. I havent noticed shedding or any poop but this guy really needs some nurisment now.
Had another hatchling this afternoon....no eyelids. I am getting frustrated and sad that this is happening to these poor babies. He is the fattest baby ever, has all his toes and stuff but his eyes are so tiny (without lids) you can barely see them. I will lube them as well to keep them moist.
The clutchmate to the latest one still has to hatch and I am praying everything will be ok.
Fingers crossed!

Oh man, I'm so sorry! You're geckos are lucky to have such a devoted owner though. I wonder if this is genetic or if it's due to those nasty meal worm contaminants. Either way good luck!

Cheers,

I think it was incubation temp flucuation MonkeyBean. The first baby was from a different mother and father then the second. The one I am waiting for is the clutchmate of this last one...keeping my fingers crossed that this little guy will be ok.
Just fed the little blind one tonight and he did a alligator roll thingy when I put him back in his viv. He wasnt happy at all, but at least I got something in him, he is a thin as a toothpick.

Well, number 1 (Dino) passed last night, there was more wrong with this little one besides being blind. He only weighed in at 1gram, noticed his cranium was dented in real bad. I tried :main_no:
Number 2 (Sookie) hatched out with no eyes, is doing very well, takes his chicken babyfood with no problems, is very fat and healthly. He weighed in at 4 grams.
Number 3 pipped, and got his nose out and was DOA. I removed him from the shell to examine, no eyes and his back legs were on backwards.
I did have a problem with temp flucs and I contribute all of this to that. Just ordered a new bator before I will continue with egg hatching.
I do hope Sookie does well and thrives. I will give him a good life and make things easier for him...he will be my bud.

I have a little pictus gecko that was born with one eye only partially there and open and the other one just not there. Pictus are much smaller than Leo's, but very hardy little guys. I named her Janelle and she is now 2 years old. She is a big cricket fan, but can't focus to catch them, so I hand feed her. She eats like a little glutton and is fat and sassy. She is the only Pictus I have had I could actually hold. She climbs into my hand for feeding time. Her enclosure is very small, but it seems to be plenty for her and she doesn't get lost.
Good luck with little Sookie and know he can have a wonderful life even if he can't see.
