I don't know what your problem is with the gas prices. In Holland we pay for one liter €1,60. That would be $9,42 a gallon, so you see....it's always worse somewhere else! ;)

I know that we Americans are spoiled BUT we have oil reserves here in this country and I am not aware of the status of available oil wells in Holland

There is no reason that the US had to become so Dependant on foreign oil

There were so many alternatives that could have been explored and could have averted this "crisis" if the oil companies and the US gov. were not "thick as thieves"

Having said all that- I do not drive a gasoline powered vehicle of any kind nor have I ever done so

I ride a bicycle/walk or take public transportation
My bf does drive me to the store once per week for very heavy items but I am not often in a car

:D

Alot of other countries have much better public transportation systems than the US. Also you have to remember Americans havent always had to pay this much for gas. All prices are going up but our salaries arent. It used to be 15.00 to fill up my car when I first got it. Now it pushing 40.00

true, but when you consider the gas price to income ratio its ridiculous around here.
where i live our minimum wage is way behind the times, $5.25/hr. when gas is rising to almost $4 a gallon you have to consider the people, including me, working on min wage. a gallon costs a little less than an hour's work. when you have large trucks and SUVs like most people down here, its a HUGE strain on your wallet. we're a small town, so public transportation is nonexistent.

Scooter and Motorcycle sales are skyrocketing. As well as more economic friendly cars like Honda and Toyota hybrids.
I'm just glad i have a Toyota Echo with only 10.5 gallon gas tank with about 35-40 mpg. But even with that its a strain on my wallet when im only working part time on minimum wage and paying for school at the same time.

I highly recommend taking trains and busses. One of my teachers went over there a month ago and he paid way more than he bargained for in gas. He also ended up driving 2,000 miles as well.

I'm totally with you on this one! We wasted the time we should have spent finding creative solutions, and now we're paying for it (literally). If you ask me, that whole "so many cars in your linup that get at least 35 mpg by 2011" is a huge crock! Someone obviously is worried about the return on his investment! :main_rolleyes:

we're really not in a "crisis" we have enough oil for a good while in our "emergency stores" the government takes more than half of the oil that comes in and throws it in the so called emergency store houses. granted it wount last forever but if theyd cut back on storing it we might lower the prices and be better off.
also all this waring we're doing is probably one of the most stupid things the president could have done. its not helping our economy one bit, only making it worse. ill be glad to get Bush out of office but i dont like any of the candidates running. i want someone that will actually DO something about the oil "crisis" instead of just talking about it.

theres no sense for cars to not get over 40 mpg today, its the oil companies that have their hand in it all. and the hybrids that only get 40-60 is ridiculous because my car gets 40 on open road as it is and it isnt a hybrid. i know they can do better

Here in the UK depending on area we're paying on average £1.10 - £1.18 ($2.14 - $2.29) a litre for unleaded (£4.40 - £4.72/ $8.54 - $9.16 a gallon) and upto £1.29+ ($2.50+) for a litre of diesel (£5.16/$10.02 per gallon).. . I walk or bus most places I need to go ;)

Ok, in Holland diesel is cheaper than unleaded. Strange... We don't have any oil in Holland, just natural gas and coal! And our minimum wage is higher than yours: almost $8,93 for someone over 21 years of age. Remember that the currency of the euro is very high at the moment, so our prices calculated to dollars vary every day, but still, it's pretty expensive here! I don't blame american reptile breeders to come here and sell their animals, haha.

At almost $4.00 a gallon, I'm just thankful I drive a fleet vehicle. I have to fill up every day to every other day, minimum of $75 a pop.
My bosses have 10 vehicles on the road at all times. I'd hate to see their fuel bill every month.

Basically if you paid for gas in the United States in "Euros" a gallon of gas would cost you 2.58 Euros (4.00) for the same gallon in US dollars)

Its not the gas prices, its the amount the Dollar is worth!

No one ever notices the value of the dollar, people just see prices go up! Hence your dollar is worth less.

Now you see that gas isnt the problem its the currency value!

.64 cents is what our dollar is worth in europe
