So here's my random question for the day.....

What is an acceptable age gap for dating? This isn't as big of a deal when you get older but it can still be a little "taboo" in certain situations.

Here it is: I'm 25, will be 26 in a few months......girl is 19, acceptable?

Typically i wouldn't even consider anyone under 21 but one of my friends convinced me to at least think it over. I dunno, i just feel like Herbert on Family Guy (creepy old dude) lol. So what do ya'll think? Am i fishing too deep in the kiddie pool or go ahead and cast away? hahaha

Just so nobody yells at me, i haven't done anything....yet, just something on my mind atm.

You're both legal, so I don't see what the issue would be. And its not like you're 50 and shes 19. (That could be construde as "creepy" or at very least, suspicious.)
My oldest is 23 and happily married to a 32 year old woman.

I wouldn't sweat a 6 year age difference.

Well, you know what. I have had this discussion a cpl times with friends. I Think if you like someone, and they are of age.. go for it!

But, along those same lines, I do also think a 18-19 yr old should be able to date someone 16-18.. Without getting in trouble. Cause it is only a cpl yrs age difference. :)

It really depends on the situation. How mature the 19 year old is, how mature the 25 year old is. It's kinda weird because she's still a teenager and you aren't anymore. She isn't going to be able to go to bars with you (if you're into that), you aren't even going to be able to order drinks at a restaurant without the waitress carding both of you (at least that's how it is up here). She's in a completely different phase of her life than you are, and that might end up getting in the way. The difference of the teenager/non teenager age gap is a huge one, and not because of the 6 years, but because of how much people's lives change in that phase between teenager and young adult.

Make sense?

Wow, Keith and I were just talking about this the other day. He had jury duty (he didn't get picked) for a statutory rape case with a 16 year old "boy" and an older woman.

I really don't think that dating a younger girl is a big deal (as long as both parties are of legal age of course). Girls tend to mature faster and usually get along better with guys who are a little older. I was 21 when Keith and I met and we have an 18 year age gap. My family was actually relieved that he wasn't another 21 year old party guy. Sure, sometimes people look at us funny but it could be on account of all the tattoos rather than our age! LOL

If you really like her, go for it. Don't listen to your buddies. 20 something year old guys don't know as much as they think they do. (No offense ;)

Why care about what others think?

I think it was more asking an opinion to see what the majority response would be. Sometimes it's nice to see how other people will react to something in order to be prepared for when you do make your decision, whether what they say will influence your decision or not.

The real question is does she like reptiles?

Take her out & you'll figure out if that 6 year gap is too much or not. I have a friend who dates an 18 yr old. He's in his 30s. She's too young mentally for the rest of us, but they're in love, so we bust him & respect the relationship.

my dad got with my step mom when she was 20, and he was 28, and my mom got with my step dad when he was 18, and she was 28, so it all depends on the people, both of the couples are still together and have kids, and going strong

How would your parents, take it? How would THEIR parents take it? Haha.

My parents made a pretty big deal about my dating someone who was 19 at the age of 17.. Now I'm 18 and he's almost 20.. Thankfully both of our parents have gotten over it. :x

I don't think a 7 year age gap is a big deal at all given that you're both adults.

I think it is perfectly acceptable. I would not mind if my 19 year old daughter dated a 25 year old. In fact, I believe I would prefer it over the 21 year old she is currently dating...

I think if you're really thinking this over, and it's obvious you are because of this post, then you're a stand-up guy and I'd say it's OK. The only suggestion I would have is, if she doesn't seem ready for a relationship, then cut your losses and walk away. Otherwise, there's no telling what you'll get yourself into.

When me and my last girlfreind got together she was 18 and I was 25. I had no problem dating her because of her age because she was more mature than most of the girls I was dating before her. that relationship lasted 10 years. I'd have to say what really matters in this situation is how you two get along with each other, and each others families. Does your kid(s) like her, and hers (if any) like you. Which should be the case in any relationship Regardless of age. :main_thumbsup:

P.S. I just called my buddy Hugh and he doesn't seem to think any age gap is inapropriate. LOL :main_laugh:

This subject comes up every so often and my responce is always the same. Age means nothing as long as it's legal and there's an attraction.

My first husband was 2 years older than me, together for 2 years.
My secong husband was 24 years older than me, 13 years then he died.
My thrid and current husband is 4 years younger than me, almost 2 years.

Age means nothing!!

I couldn't have sum'd up exactly what i was thinking any better. I just remember how i was at that age and how i am now and i can't even being 2 understood who the hell that was. I just almost feel like i would be taking advantage of one of those ages people go thru where they're just finding themselves. Maybe i'm growing up, just makes me feel bad dirty in a way.
