Hi all!

First off I am new to the forum so I would like to start by saying a big hello to everyone!

I have had my gecko bob for a few years now he is an albino male weighing in at 84g. Recently I have been looking for a companion for him since I lost his original companion in an accident when they were mere babies. So yesterday I got him a companion a female albino sub adult who weighs 34g. At the minute they are both housed together in a 36'x18'x18'viv. Now my main worry is that my male tries to get jiggy with the female and with her being young and only 34g I don’t want her to become gravid. With the season being pretty much over now I was hoping she wouldn’t accept him if he tried to make an advance with her not ovulating. I don’t mind spending some more money and separating my viv into 2 mini-viv's if it means my female will be healthy.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated :D

You will need to keep them apart. I've had females ovulate in the winter and two of mine are right now. You don't want her to be gravid when she's that small.

Welcome to the forums!

In addition to keeping them apart till next season, if she's old enough then, it's best in general to quarantine new gecko purchases for at least 30 days to make sure no one catches anything. Congratulations on your new acquisition and welcome to GF.

Welcome to Gecko Forums! This is a great site!

At 34 grams, she is WAY too small to become gravid, so your concerns are legitimate....most breeders wait until females are at least 45-50 grams before breeding. Depending on your feeding schedule and husbandry, this can take anywhere from 10-24 months to reach. I would either split the cage they're in currently, or keep them in separate temporary aquariums...whatever you have to do, but he's not going to stop trying to breed her if she isn't removed! Good luck, and congratulations on your new addition! It's always so exciting to get a brand new gecko :)

yeah I split them up last night just by using some cardboard and lots of sticky tape...its not pretty but it works!! So i am going to ikea today to get a shelving unit/breeding rack and then gutting all the stuff out my viv and putting it in the new rack.... plus this way I can get some hatchlings I have seen (like a mack snow het albino :D ). It was the logical solution all along.:main_thumbsup:

Thanks for all the responses!:D
