Pretty much anything with skin and nerves can get itchy; I don't see why a gecko would mind getting an occasional petting instead of having to rub up against a log. :tongue3:

Geckos like to "smoosh" themselves in tight, safe spaces, too, so I would imagine the sensation of pressure would be pleasant, if they know you're not a predator.

Just yesterday I was playing with my gecko and he pressed the top of his head up against my fingers and sat there while I rubbed his head and back a little. Sometimes he dozes off (or at least, closes his eyes for a while) when he's sitting on my arm or shoulder. Sweet little guy.

What TV shows do your leos like best? Favorite song? What ice cream flavors do they tell you they like when no one else is around?

Favorite tv show- Dinosaurs DVD collection

Favorite song- Cold blooded by Rick James

Favorite Ice Cream- Butterfly Ice Cream Sandwiches but they are looking forward to Ben and Jerry's releasing of waxxie traxxie.

LOL I just had to mess with that. I know I would like to believe that my geckos love me but when it comes down too it, they would probably react the same if anyone brought them bugs. I pet the heads of the ones that don't mind it but I do believe they just simply tolerate it so I will put the bugs in the bowl.:main_evilgrin:

lol My earlier post was light-hearted, too.

We like them more than they "like" us. It's more like they either tolerate us or don't mind us, but I am sure that the warmth of a hand or association of the giant human with the tasty treat is there. I notice a lot other people try to anthropomorphize the heck out of their pets, though. I don't look at it that way. I consider it silly to think of a lizard as a little person just as much as the concept of a lizard viewing a person as a big lizard. It's an egocentric way of seeing things.

I love my gecko. My gecko does not love me. I won't say he's incapable, I have no idea what a gecko is capable of as I am not a gecko. :tongue3: But he doesn't love me. He climbs on me when he is chilly or needs a place to perch or wants to go somewhere he can't get to on his own. He is tame, and he's very tolerant of my handling him to make him more comfortable or not-uncomfortable (as with aforementioned headscratch) but he doesn't seek me out for no reason. I've always thought of geckos as little, clammy-skinned cats. Works pretty well most of the time, though cats are a bit more social and can be more affectionate when they choose. :D

Honestly, even if my gecko doesn't "like" me, I'm just glad that they aren't afraid of me or associate me with bad things. Interacting with animals means more to me than it does the animal, I'm sure, but having your gecko not shy from you or seek you for warmth is no less special than a wild deer eating from your hand. I don't have to anthropomorphize my animals to feel a companionship with them...Okay that's a lie; it's fun to pretend they like me. :p

I need to get mine some mealies, he's pouting around because I haven't got enough food for him to stuff his face every day.

STUTFL, everytime I see your name I keep reading it as "STFU". XD

And I think my Mandarin might be pouting too. She'll eat supers if she's really hungry but I think what she really wants is crickets. Which I hate with a burning, hellish passion. *sigh*

:laugh4: In hindsight, not exactly the least confusing screenname choice. :tongue3:

*chirp* *chirp* *chirp* \ollo/

I've got a blanket and a cardboard box over the cricket cage to drown them out (and maybe smother them? :D ) at night ... you can hear them when you're standing by the door, and they're not even *by* the door.
They're not as loud as wild, but that doesn't make it any better. :tongue3:

Ah, but we are at the mercy of our geckos' whims.

How many mealworms can they *eat* in a sitting, anyhow?! They were never my primary feeder, just once in a bit for variety, but my last few crickets decided to die today (It wasn't murder, I swear!) and I finally had no choice but to get some mealies.
I got a bag (ugh, I hate having to carry mealworms in a *bag* ) of 70, and he just will not stop ... I just dumped them in some bran fluff and started picking them out for him, and I can barely find any in the bran now. :laugh4:

He's finally stopped giving me the "More food, slave" look when I'm more than a few seconds in dropping another one in his "dish" (giant clay saucer that takes up almost half the cage) though.

Well, this may be relegated to the "off-topic" forum, but it has a lot of good points, and even a little information on reptilian cognition:

http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=one-world-many-minds

We just don't see eye-to-eye: our limbic system doesn't capture reptilian expressions so well. It doesn't say so verbatim in the article, but that's one of the conclusions I drew.

As ever, I could be wrong. It doesn't bother me if I am in this case. :)

Some of my geckos seem to enjoy rubs, others don't. It does seem to be something they need to get habituated to.

I vote for my geckos love me and I know it!

Wow! Thanks for posting that article. It's very interesting as well as encouraging. I always had a haunch that reptiles were smarter than we thought - they're just different is all.
