What i dont get is theres a few of you have used describing say a tremper het bell a "mutt" Surely any leo that is not a normal is also a "mutt" especially the random ones ,blizzard , enigma etc. So surely breeding these should be unethical aswell as they are too random mutations. Imagine if someone managed to combine a bell and tremper and create a completely new morph i can guarantee me included we would all be willing to breed to try and recreate this new morph or buy one.. Is this not very hypocritical?

There are no official rules in breeding leos so comparing it to a football game or to you americans a soccer game is a bit of a wrong comparison imo. There are no red cards in leo breeding if there was Kim and mark bell would of been sent off years ago for producing a gecko like the enigma yet most of us are willing to breed these morphs knowing that we may well produce a sick gecko. How is this ok and breeding two strains of albino not. This is what i genuinely do not understand. The so called ethics are made up to suit whoever at the time imo.
And the only problem i see from breeding two strains of albino is identifying them which is just a pain in the ass for us but im sure the gecko dont give a damn.

Kel pretty much said it but I'm going to add my part.

There is absolutely NO WAY to ensure an animal you have produced will never be bred outside of surgical sterilization. Leopard geckos can live 20 years or more, females can produce eggs well into their teens and males can breed indefinately. How many people keep the gecko for that span of time? And realistically, most people who keep leopard geckos for any amount of time consider breeding. It's usually only a matter of time.

As a breeder, it is your ethical responsibility to only produce animals that are as genetically sound and pure as possible. There's no reason to make "mutts" when there are already plenty of pure animals that have trouble finding homes.

I'm not sure what you mean by "cover up" gene. If you mean if an albino animal can visually mask other traits in the animal, then yes, in some cases it can (snows for example, some snow albinos can be difficult to tell from regular albinos).

I totally agree with u .In your post you say breeders have an ethical responsibility to produce animals that are as genetically sound.Where is the uproar with enigmas ?? Although I agree u shouldnt mix albino strains this is no where near as disasterous as the enigma where ppl intentionally breed enigmas and then when they are born defective they put the leo down.THAT to me is real hypocritical

I am still not sure why so many of you think its wrong for what I have done. I dont really care either but I do try to understand as much as I can about any reptile I keep and or breed. Every baby I have ever sold has had the genetics of it included. A while ago I purchased an enigma female het bell. She was very reasonible on price so I jumped on it. I have not bred her and never will because of the "twitch". I also wont sell her. I dont think its ok to breed an animal with such severe neuro issues. She is gorgeous and I love her but just cant breed her. Im not going to sit here and tell everyone that their enigma projects are a bad idea though. To each his own. My "mutts" are a project like many of you have projects.
I came on here asking advice and ideas, and I recieved both. This thread has turned much more negative than I thought it would.

Despite a lot of the negativity this thread has generated overall I really do think it is quite an interesting looking lil leo. I for one would be really interested in seeing how it develpos in the long term honestly.

Ive been on your side the whole time. For me if your not breeding enigmas then you have more ethics than someone who does but dosent cross albino strains. Goddluck with whatever you decide to do.

Noah -Whether ppl agree with u or not.Everyone has the right to their opinion.I think breeding enigamas is a whole lot worse than mixing albinos although I dont agree with both practices.
