has anyone ever heard of disolving calcium in the water dish? the lady at the pet store said to do this instead of dusting crickets. just wondring if its b/s before i try it

I still give them a calcium dish and I dust the crix. Calcium in the water won't cut it.

I was using the rep cal combination but recently switched over to Repashy calcium plus. At the very least it's working as well, and at best it's a lot better because all my gecko babies are growing like weeds and I am having the most productive breeding season ever with the fewest egg losses I've ever had.

Also, Repashy ICB is designed for Bearded Dragons, which are diurnal and omnivores... not nocturnal and insectivores like Leopard Geckos.

Marcia,

Where are you coming up with this? Your statement is absolutely false. In fact, you brought up this same topic last year in another thread and I gave my response once before. The majority of my work developing my products was done with geckos, primarily Rhacodactylus. What do you think Rep-Cal was designed for? Most likely Green Iguana's and Bearded dragons....Leopard geckos weren't even very popular when Rep-Cal hit the market. It has more than ten times the vitamin D-3 in it than my product, meaning it is WAY more geared towards diurnal species than my products.

I've been using Calcium Plus to dust all my feeders since October 2008 and I've had no issues at all. I have one set of females that have a dish of Calcium Plus in their enclosure and another set that have a dish of RepCal calcium in their enclosure. The males have no calcium dish. I'm trying to get a feel for any impacts to egg quality if the gecko is on 100% Calcium Plus. I'm mid way through the egg laying season so I still can't draw any conclusions. Even once breeding season is done it will be very hard to draw any meaningful conclusions as my leos are very unpredictable egg layers at the best of times and I don't have the large numbers of females laying eggs required to get a fair sample.

What I know for sure is that I have not had any sign of calcium deficiency in any of my geckos since I started using Calcium Plus exclusively on all my feeders and the routine has been greatly simplified by using an all in one product. It sticks to feeders better than the other products I've used and it does have a scent that I think helps the leos know when it's lunch time. Kind of like us walking past a KFC...:main_laugh:

I’ll be keeping some babies on nothing but Calcium Plus this year to see how they develop into adulthood. So far it’s working well.

I recommend the product to anyone I sell a gecko to as it helps ease new gecko owners into the supplementation routine. Some new gecko owners are taken aback by the swell of products and recommendations concerning supplementing leopard geckos. I feel better if they leave my table with a package of Calcium Plus than if they left my table with a caresheet and a shopping list of products to run out and buy.

Disclosure: I do sell the product at shows and on my online store.

for the normal calcium dust/bowl i use repivite since it does have calcium and some phosphorus and the added vitamins seem good

for the once week D3 im using rep cal with D3 and no phosphorus

I THOUGHT I had replied to this, but apparently I haven't.

I use Repashy Calcium Plus ICB for ALL feeders (including worms), and rep-cal without D3 for calcium dishes.

Out of 13 fertile eggs laid this season, only lost one due to severe molding.
My females that were skinny before becoming gravid have actually put on, I'd say, 20 grams or more.
My hatchlings are beyond healthy and have fatty bellies.:D

I'm somewhat of a newb when it comes to geckos, but I have been using the T-Rex Repashy Superfoods Leopard Gecko Calcium Plus. It's all-in-one and my girl really seems to like it. It does coat the feeders very well.
