Blizzard?

So I was getting some supplies at petco because there is nowhere else to get them where I live, at least not without shipping, and I came across this girl and couldn't leave her behind for someone to kill. I'm fairly certain she's a blizzard and haven't gotten a real close look at her since I bought her but she does have a slight tinge of yellow on her back towards her tail and on one leg. So is that what she is?

Definitely a blizzard, no idea if she's blazing or not. I find that the blizzards change color and can be more yellowish or pupleish or even white depending on mood, temperature and who knows what else.

Petco is notorious for being badly informed and passing that info on. She's healthy because she's a new shipment. The tank was barely 80 degrees according to a little sticky thermometer and they keep them on the super fine sand they carry. I've seen the babies they sell at the Petco where I live. If they don't sell out soon after they arrive and they rarely stay as healthy as when they arrived. Her tank mates were barely half her size.

She looks fine, why would you assume someone would kill her?
Rude

Big name pet stores are shady. I've seen how badly they treat their reptiles. But I don't think the OP was attacking all pet stores. The op used a specific place... And I'd have to agree. They may not kill them, but I've seen them ignored to the point of death.

And you just gave them your money, supporting them in their gecko neglect. Good job.

Maybe so, but as I said I couldn't leave her. Besides I have nowhere else to go to get the few supplies I can't reasonably get online so there's no difference between buying a light bulb because mine shorted out and buying a half price gecko. Having worked retail I know they made less money (if any) off her than off the $2.99 mealworm dish.

Anyway, is there any way I can tell if she is a blazing blizzard or not?

There is a huge difference. You open up a spot for a new gecko when you buy one. Buying a bulb affects a different department, with different numbers and markups. It's too late now, but so you know in the future you are harming geckos when you buy from somewhere that you knowingly neglects their pets.

Mhm it's a different department but what departments do you suppose support the animals in any pet store? Markup on animals is surprisingly low no matter how expensive they are. They do not make enough money on the animals to support housing and food.

I worked in a feed store selling chicks. We made no money on chicks (lost money most days). What we made huge amounts on was food and care items, toys and treats, and the candy bar at the checkout stand. One chick on average generated $500 dollars of revenue through its life. We sold thousands. One chick made no difference. Unfortunately a few people in the reptile world boycotting a chain store like that will make no difference. It needs to be fought not from the bottom up but from the top down. I would love to see places like that take proper care of their animals and do research before handing out advice but it won't happen so long as money is the sole objective.

My buying one lizard from them is no matter to them. Everyone agrees they fail to care for their animals or provide proper advice and therefore are most likely to kill that animal. Especially one as cheaply sold as a leo. Therefore my "assumption" that someone would likely have killed her was not rude but a well educated guess. So the argument is moot. You cannot convince me nor I you and this is sorely off subject.

But regardless, can anyone tell me if there is a way to tell if she is a blazing blizzard? Most of my searches result in mixes and no real info. Thank you.

Yeah my boyfriend owns a petstore and I manage the reptile department. I think I know how it works. ;)

Also worked at petsmart for an unfortunate 3 years. If there's no room for more reptiles, they don't get ordered.

I personally work at Petco and at my particular branch that sort of treatment is unacceptable. Its sad that Petco, and other chain pet stores catch such a bad rep with this community. Especially when there are actually some people who work there that are knowledgeable, and provide excellent care for the animals that they sell. You should file a complaint through the 1-800 number off the website. Just out of personal interest what state do you live in?

New Mexico, a little backwoods. Around here if it's not livestock or a working dog, it's not important enough to worry about. Unfortunate, yes, but true. I live in a farming and oilfield community. Most people barely have enough to see themselves through the winter and see no reason to spend money or time on an animal that doesn't contribute. With the hours people pull, there's no time to care about whether or not the pet store takes care of its animals. I just happen to be one of the bleeding hearts that cares overly much about my animals.

Does you're branch keep them on repticarpet or anything that you're supposed to? Just curious because if one does it, others might be persuaded in the end. The sand they have them on in ours is unacceptable but the lady running it thinks I know nothing since I'm so young so I've pretty much given up on talking to her.
