Luckily the chain stores near me have good staffers who take care of the animals. They can answer every question I have and they are always making sure the animals are in the right conditions before selling them. They make sure you have cage and all the right needs the animal has to have.

There are just as many good stores as there are bad. It just erks me when people support them and complain about them all at the same time. When I worked at the clinic it was the same thing with puppymills. Don't buy something you feel bad for, try to contain yourself. It's hard, I understand. As one of the better stores its insulting when people buy geckos they feel bad for in stead of supporting responsible stores or breeders that work hard.

New Mexico, a little backwoods. Around here if it's not livestock or a working dog, it's not important enough to worry about. Unfortunate, yes, but true. I live in a farming and oilfield community. Most people barely have enough to see themselves through the winter and see no reason to spend money or time on an animal that doesn't contribute. With the hours people pull, there's no time to care about whether or not the pet store takes care of its animals. I just happen to be one of the bleeding hearts that cares overly much about my animals.

Does you're branch keep them on repticarpet or anything that you're supposed to? Just curious because if one does it, others might be persuaded in the end. The sand they have them on in ours is unacceptable but the lady running it thinks I know nothing since I'm so young so I've pretty much given up on talking to her.

Yeah we do keep our leos on repticarpet. The fact that they're keeping them on sand is unacceptable. I live in North Carolina, and at my particular Petco we mainly just sell juvenile Leopards so we always keep them on the repticarpet. Also a lot of the time when we get new shipments there will be geckos who are malnourished and super skinny. Then we have to raise them back to good health and people get the impression that we aren't providing good care for the animals. This is how I first came to own a Leo. I felt so bad for one of the little starved guys i just had to take him home.

Yeah, I understand that completely. I ended up with three chickens I didn't need because of that.

The statement about puppymills and such kind of amuses me. It shouldn't but it does. That's like saying I don't support what the government is doing so I refuse to vote. Pointless more or less. Granted buying them will open up a spot or "support" it. But I'm more than open to changing one animal's life. It's a lot like the starfish story. You may not be able to save them all but you can make a difference to a few.

On the same note, I see it more as punishing the animal than the people responsible. Instead of boycotting them (which will not fix the problem), spend the time and energy to fight them. It would work if everyone did it but in reality who will everyone actually do it?

So how will her eyes tell you if she's a blazing blizzard or not? I'm assuming she's not, though her eyes are dark, like I said they are not solid and not red. And I'm not certain what constitutes a snake eye though I don't know what that has to do with her being a blazing or not.

If we all boycot them, they will stop. They continue because they make money. If they dont make money, they'll choose something else.
If people are selfish and keep buying them, our and MY hard work doesnt pay off.

I will not argue this subject, puppymills and bad petstores NEED to be boycotted by EVERYONE.
The people who run these things have responsibility to stop, but we also have to hold some responsibility and not support them.

I have three dogs.
2 of which are puppymill rescues, one is a rescue from a backyard breeder who tried it once and failed.
People who still buy from puppy mills because they feel bad for one puppy infuriate me. I understand its hard to look at them and not take them home - but DONT DO IT!! If you know youre weak, don't put yourselfin those situations.
When you go to your local bad petstore, dont go look at the geckos. End of story.

One of my dogs is a hot mess. This is because he was kept ina cage for 6 months before he was rescued. And he was a lucky dog.
This type of thing needs to stop.

Petco is a corporate giant of the pet industry. Leopard Geckos are one of the most popular lizards to keep as pets. Even if you did not buy the gecko and it died in that store another would replace it. Do not let people make you feel bad over buying your gecko. At the end of the day, you like your gecko and you made a difference in its life.

I don't feel bad in the least. But all the debate has gotten off subject again :D

So how will her eyes tell you if she's a blazing blizzard or not? I'm assuming she's not, though her eyes are dark, like I said they are not solid and not red. And I'm not certain what constitutes a snake eye though I don't know what that has to do with her being a blazing or not.

I got a new camera so here in the next few days I'll be able to get some nice pics up here.

So how will her eyes tell you if she's a blazing blizzard or not?

The eyes will be colored the respective albino strain that the particular Blazing Blizzard is made up of. For example, if the gecko is a Tremper Blazing Blizzard, it will exhibit gray-silver eyes with red veining, or in other words, Tremper eyes. Or if the gecko is a Bell Blazing Blizzard, it will have the pinkish eyes of the Bell strain.

To elaborate on the post above, look to see if there are any pinkish or red veins in the eyes as opposed to dark ones. The only other reliable way is to breed it to an albino (though you'd need to know the correct strain: if you got it at Petco it would be Tremper) and see if you get any albino babies.

This is the best pic of her eyes I've gotten so far, I don't want to stress her though she seems rather friendly for being so young. I see only dark veining and they're not pink or red that I can tell.
