Bold Stripe questions

So I've decide to focus more on 2-3 morphs whereas I was trying to make several different morphs all in 1 season.

And i have to say, I'm in love with Kelli's Bolds......they are so clean and simple! But unbelievably gorgeous! I have a few lavender giants and i want to try and focus on making simple elegant babies, instead of enigmas, tangs, Trempers, and snows. I wasnt ready for so many morphs. (I was ready for the babies, but i didnt have any direction) Even as a biology major, its hard to find people who love reptiles as much as i do... so i only talk about leos on the forum..ha

So with the Bold Stripe has it been proven to be recessive? (Maybe Kelli could shed some light on this) because most of the threads dont talk about bolds, mainly just pictures of offspring... Any info on Bolds and if its just line bred or not?

Thanks
Cody

from what I have read on them (and by no means am I an expert) it is a recessive gene and I am thinking both parents have to have that gene to produce the bold stripe. I am sure someone with more experience will chime in.

Bold and Stripe are two different genes. They collectively make a Bold Stripe. Some say Bold acts recessive and stripe is polygenetic. I have bred two fully striped bolds stripes together and gotten non fully striped Bolds...and vice versa making fully striped Bold Stripes from non fully striped parents. The only thing consistent is the transfer of Bold.

Ok, that makes a lot of sense. Your bolds are amazing as well btw!
So what all have people mixed with Bolds then?

Thank You.

Bolds are probably in just about EVERYTHING. A lot of people mix and match but don't post pics until their project is more refined. Typically your not seeing to often in Albinos because the BOLD isn't as eye popping when its not black against a light body.

Well those genes are not ever really linked because the Bold Stripe would be of no use with the enigma because the enigma would affect the pattern (stripe and bold). Enigmas in my opinion look best with snow morphs. It makes tangerines have some intense color but that color isnt always a true representation of what can be inherited by non enigma offspring.

I mean that I see that enigmas are getting popular, and i see very little bold/bold stripe.

But idk why? I love the way they look.

I do not believe the Bold Stripes are simple recessive at all. They are a polygenic pattern morph... most of which are selectively bred for their nice, clean, bold stripes.

Yeah, just do a search for "Bold Stripe recessive" or something similar and you can read a ton of threads about this topic. ;-)

my personal opinion is that the stripe/jungle gene is simple recessive however the boldness and color is line bred. lets see if kelli can chime in on how she made her striped bells.
