I rarely ever rescue an animal for fear of introducing something into my colony or because I just don't want to feed the people responsible for the problem, but when I saw this guy about 3 months ago my heart sank. I just couldn't let him go on to die like this, so I stationed him up in another room in my house and took special care of him. It didn't take much for this poor guy to get back on his feet, even if they were missing toes. "Bones" will never leave our facility because he deserves better than what he has been given. Makes me angry that anyone could ever let it go this far...

Amazing he made it this far...

Wow what a difference with some fat on him! I volunteer at an animal shelter, and it really amazes me how some people can just completely forget about an animal's basic needs. And it's even more amazing how resilient each one is once you get them on the right track.

His before pictures scared me though, I never thought a leopard gecko could get that skinny.

Thanks everyone. He belonged to the stepson of somebody I know. I guess he said he just lost interest. He was upset to loose his pet but his parents forced him to based on its condition.
No big secret to getting him better. Just kept him in the optimal conditions and fed him gradually. He's doing well now and only has a kink in his tail and some missing toes.

Nicely done!!! That poor thing...our local Petworld has one that looks JUST like that...if it weren't $95 I would get him and rehab him/her!!! I wish i knew who to report something like this at the store cause I would.

First BIG KUDOS to YOU for saving this little guy

2nd BIG KUDOS to the parents for making this kid let the poor little guy go

I dont have much experiance in these issues but if I hit a pet store that had a Gecko looking like this I would go to the manager. After that - I would also follow up with the district manager - after that - I would hope things would change.

Even if they didnt change for that store (sadly) I would still feel better knowing I tried.

Super Kudos OP!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a truly amazing story and very inspirational to me. My Leo is exactly that skinny. I have been trying everything I can but, I haven't been able to put any weight on her. Its very frustrating. She has the will to eat but can't keep anything down. Do you have any suggestions? I have already taken her to the vet and was given panacur.

Congratulations to you and it's comforting to know that there is still hope for my little girl.

He looks lovely now! The before photos made my heart sank, and I perked up seeing the now photos. I'm so glad you did such a good job fattening him back up! :)
