Brumation

Update: He hasn't come out of his hide now in about 5 weeks. No eating. Pooping and peeing has stopped. But he looks fine. No weight loss that I can see. He's awake when I lift the lid off of his hide. This is just kind of wierd.

If your main concern is him not eating, try different insects. That should spark his appetite back up:)

My girl has slowed down majorly here for winter, she wont eat her supers, tried crickets as well. She is not really losing weight, only a few grams over weeks of this behaviour. Seems that others have geckos that do this as well.
My other geckos on the other hand are eating like pigs.

To slow down is perfectly normal. On the other hand not eating at all over a month is not the healthiest thing. She has been concerned for a while so I thought offering something different can help.

Update: Now this is knid of wierd. After not eating for at least 6 weeks I noticed that his mealworm bowl was empty! There were at least 8 worms in the bowl. When I saw the bowl empty I honestly couldn't remember if I had actually filled it because it seemed odd that all the worms would be gone. So last night I put another 8 or so worms in the bowl and this morning there was just 1 left! Does brumation end just like that or will they eat during brumation every now and then? He's eaten well over a dozen mealworms in the last 2 days.

One thing that makes brumation different from hibernation (at least I think this is it) is that it's not a months-long deep sleep. There can be varying periods of waking and activity. I just keep offering every 3 days but don't get too worried if the gecko doesn't take me up on it.

This, my girl still moves around, but mostly decides to be lazy. As long as weight is not dropping drastically it should not be a problem.

I have some that do not eat for months at a time once fall comes. Some will eat every so often others will eat nothing at all. Once spring comes they snap out of it. In the beginning of this hobby I worried sick, now I know its what some of them do.

About 2 weeks ago my gecko's brumation pretty much ended. He came out of his hide for the first time in 2 months and began eating. Nothing changed so I'm not sure why he suddenly began acting normal again. Now he's eating about twice weekly. I thought he would be in brumation all winter.

2 weeks ago is when sunset started getting later (it happens before the solstice because there's a period when both sunset and sunrise are getting later) but that may just be a coincidence.
