So after everything that's happened today, our healthy hatchling also has some kind of problem.

It has this bubbly thing at the base of it's tail. At first, I thought it was an organ sticking out of him or something, but it really is just a blister/bubbly thing.

He is fine otherwise and is moving around just fine. I posted this in another forum with other pics, but figured people may not see it unless it's on it's own thread (so sorry for double posting).

He is in a moist hide with paper towels and everything.. we're hoping that whatever that is falls off by morning.. or so.. We will take him to the vet if needed be and will keep everyone updated.

I don't think anyone has experienced this before, so I realized we wouldn't really get much advice on what to do. We will definitely keep you posted about this! Thanks so much for your support :)

It looks like it could be a prolapse or herniation of some sort

Yep i agree, they sometimes sort themselves out, im not sure if a vet could even do anything on such a tiny baby. Finegrs crossed

Bubble??

Your bubble.....appears to be a prolapse to me....more stress from a vet may drop the tail right now ...its already stressed from coming out of the egg...unless he is really knowledgeable of geckos. I'd wait..see if it takes care of itself...I don't think the vet will do any more than you....except put more stress on it. Ask him up front how many geckos he sees. .......I quote this from an experience. Mine dropped a tail and 5 hours later....my buddy was dead..........................
Be careful
Good, caring Vets, responsible animals lovers.....just not enough gecko business for our protection. Or if you have too....drive out to see Marcia's vet..... / HJ

Herniation, maybe.. Prolapse, definitely not. Trust me on this one, I thought it was a prolapse too, but if you look really closely, it's nothing coming out of the vent, it's just a big bubble (could be an air bubble, maybe a blood bubble..not sure) and you can see right through it to his good skin underneath.. It's really weird, I wish I could get better pics of it.

Thanks for the support everyone, we really appreciate it.. It looks the same today, but he/she still moves around like nothing's wrong at all. I really think it's some kind of bubble that can be popped, but I know that I shouldn't mess with it. It just reminds me of a blister, and blisters always need to be popped before they get better.

We know of a great Herp vet (Jay D. Johnson DVM) so we will give him a call and make an appointment if it's necessary. I agree though, I don't think a vet will be able to do much.. We are going to give him about a week or so and see how things go. I caught the little guy biting at the bubble, and I thought he was getting it off or something, like they do with their shed skin.. But it really doesn't look any different today.

I guess I'll take another pic, and try to get a better close-up of just the bubble, I really don't see how this bubble-like thing could be something that's supposed to be inside of the gecko's body, but maybe it is a weird prolapse, I don't know.. The bubble isn't as red today, so you'll be able to see more with the redness gone..

What really worries me is that it's over his vent.. We were thinking that it was yolk sac stuck to the vent or something.. He just hatched, so he won't be using the bathroom (yet) but what about when he does?? I am afraid that he won't be able to, I just don't know..

Okay, well I looked up pics of herniation, and that's definitely not it, either. I have read about others having "blister-like" bubbles, and the vet simply poked the thing to drain it, and then the leo's owner just put neosporin on it everyday after that.. Do you think I should try to do this???

Here's some more pics to show the bubble better..

and what's up with that red line on his belly? I didn't see that until I took these underbelly pics, but is that normal??

He didn't lay in his moist hide today (that I know of), so I am giving him a warm water soak right now..

in my thoughts
wow!!!! I really cant help you on this one but it does look serious now on these updated pictures! If its too complicated and will give him trouble in his future life I would think its best to see what nature decides. I dont mean to stop helping it still but if the vet finds a surgery or something that serious I think its best to just let him be. It looks like it could be yolk but it was deposited in his lower belly(way low) instead of his abdomen.

wow... that looks painful. :( I'm not sure what to do with this little one, but I might consider calling a local vet and talking to them about what you could do to help this little fellow...

But it's not painful... ??? He doesn't mind when I touch it and it doesn't bother him or anything.. he acts completely normal and everything.. I am going to send an e-mail with pics to the herp vet we know, and see if he can give me any advice or anything before making an appointment.

My main concern would definitely be the fact that it will probably inhibit the litttle one's ability to eliminate properly. I'm glad she's alert and active. That's a good sign. I'm just afraid she will not be able to have her first poo after her first shed.......:(

That's exactly what I am worried about. He should have his first shed in a few days. I just got done e-mailing our herp vet, so we will see what he has to say, probably by tomorrow morning.

Good luck with this one, we'll keep our fingers crossed for you. Hopefully your vet can shed some light on what the problem is. Such a bummer after the conjoined twin sadness.

WOW!!!!!!!! Those pics do make it look worst then the 1st pics you sent me. I hope your vet can shed some light on it. I had an ideal also today. Maybe some sort of heat blister? or something like a blister you get on your lip or tongue. Just ideals.
