Can grapes burn a leopard gecko's tongue?

I left a half a grape in the mealworm bowl, and when Jasper went for a mealie he got a mouthful of grape instead. He spit it out and started twitching..and I noticed the middle of his tongue is a deep red color...while the rest of his mouth and the tip and back of his tongue are a darker pink (the color it usually is when he's well hydrated). Is that a normal thing I've never seen before or could the grape's acidity have burned him in some way?

The tongue is normally darker near the tip, and gradually gets lighter towards the back. Perfectly normal, and nothing to worry about.

Right, except the tip is lighter than the middle? Like the middle is a really dark red and the tip and back are pink...it's unusual compared to my other guys/other times I've seen his tongue

I apologise, I guess I read your post wrong. I wouldn't imagine a grape is acidic enough to do any kind of damage to the mouth...not sure what is causing the middle to become red, but i'd just make sure he's still eating his mealies with no problem. Maybe it was just the way he was swallowing at that particular moment.

Maybe when he spit the piece of grape out he bit his tongue by accident?

Haha I thought about him biting his tongue, but I think in that case it would have been the tip as well. He's sort of a frustrating eater to begin with, so it'll be hard to tell if he's eating "normally." He stopped twitching after a minute or so and is just wandering around his viv now...

Weird.

I don't think the grape would burn his tongue, I think he just doesn't like the taste or shocked by the "new flavour", and therefore spit it out. If I remember correctly, I think Marcia has mentioned she fed a little bit of grape to her geckos before, and some geckos seem to like it.

Honestly, I once offered a tiny bit of carrot shred to one of my gecko, and he also spit it out really quickly and shook his head making sure all the carrot is gone, lol. Don't worry. :)

Lol he seems fine now and his tongue is back to the normal color...guess it was just one of those weird unexplained things :)
