I would say Hypo. Those bands will probably fade when he grows up if he is kept well.

A very dark hypo. he will become lighter once he is healthy and the temperature is correct. What temp do you have him in now and what is your source of heat? Also, Am I the only one noticing the swollen joints? It could be that he's so emaciated they look large, early gout, or MBD?

Nope you're not the only one that noticed...good eye.

The joints are definately swollen. This little guy would benefit from an exam and an xray.

I second that observation. Big swollen joints!

I do not think anyone was blaming you for the swolen joints, it is just an indicator of some serious conditions. I've not been here very long, but I have observed that the majority of this community is pretty quick to point out something that might indicate problems. It's not meant to imply that you were to blame, but instead to help you in improving the animals health and situation. The fact that you are asking questions and looking for ideas and input speaks well for your intentions.

When you say your room is at the recommended temp and the gauge is reading 85, is that inside the gecko's enclosure? Where are you reading the temp at? If you are reading 85 on the hot spot that is probably a touch low but not critically so. Hopefully your gecko will start eating and putting on some weight in the near future.

The temp needs to be around 92. And were not blaming you for making him unhealthy, but since you now own him your responsible for him. If you don't mind me asking, where do you live? try googling exotic vets in your area. If it is gout or MBD it will continue to get worse if left untreated. Where did you buy him? you may still be able to return him. (I don't think it would be in the best interest of the gecko though)

No, it will not help. This gecko has a medical condition that needs diagnostic testing to be able to diagnose definatively.

When you call your vet tommorow, have them refer you to a reptile-friendly veterinarian who can perform an exam and an xray.

If money is an issue, I will warn you beforehand that this could potentially need quite a bit of veterinary visits...
