I have always wonder with all the new breeders going to buy a hova....it isnt needed...

two ways on doing a cheap bator...

in your exisiting 10 gallon tank

get your 75w red bulb and shine it in your ten gallon....9/10 you will get 79-82 degrees...perfect for females....keep the eggs in the in your gladware and put them in the ten gallon....cost you a 99 cent gladware...

or the always classic aquarium heaters

pros: cheap and easy
cons: 65% hatch rate...temp isnt constant into the gladware

cheers

That's a very interesting idea, but since I run about 65% with the incubator, I hesitate to think how I'd do using the tank.

It certainly could work but it would have to be in a place with an incredibly stable temperature. Our house varies anywhere from 10-20 degrees through the day so there would be pretty substantial temperature fluctuations with the .99 method. I think the $40 for the Hovabator is probably worth the investment, IMO.

40 dollars really isn't that much money...saving money is always good but sometimes I think its a good think to spend the extra few dollars.

I got both of my incubaters as bday gifts. I tend to ask for reptile supplies for holidays. Our house fluctuates too much also.
