I think we might be getting trolled here. I find it REALLY hard to believe that a reptile rescue would just adopt it out to someone that has NO IDEA how to care for them, and apparently doesn't seem to care. I also find it REALLY hard to believe that the gecko in that pic is as old as it's supposed to be. AND there is NO WAY a leopard gecko would have lived in THAT bad of a setup since 2007. It would have maybe lasted 6 months. So.. I'm callin BS on this one.

I'd considered it, but kind of dismissed the idea in the interest of the leo. It would explain the anime character as an avatar (common for trolls) and the "Didn't know that they required a specific environment," comment. Also would explain why the person has disappeared when people offer to take it. Though, unfortunately, not all "rescues" are good.

Wow, just read through this whole thread and I am dumbfounded by the OP and his lack of care for animals! First off, he said he got it in 2007, and didn't know if needed a specific environment? So, for 5 years, its been suffering like this!!! I pray that this is a troll and if not, I pray that he actually saves the leo or gives it to a reptile rescue. Poor little guy, no animal should be treated like this especially ones that can't help themselves! This makes me angry! :main_angry:

Actually, this only started happening recently. Before it got cold, the gecko was doing fine and eating crickets like a little "Godzilla".(In fact, he even looks up at me when I usually open a bag of crickets.)
He has been moving a little bit and the heat pad is helping. I'm going to get crickets tomorrow, but I haven't been able to for a couple of days due to the holidays and such.(Around Christmas, he was doing fine and had plenty of crickets.)

I don't know of any other exotic pet veterinarians around, especially since I'm unsure of what happened to the business of our previous one.
Money is also a bit tight with my dad having to pay bills and for my college education.
I'm going to get crickets tomorrow and hope for the best.

I agree with the "not all rescues are good" sentiment. And I have seen some REALLY bad stuff on these forums, but this one is just too bad to be believable. Obvious troll is obvious. There is NO WAY that gecko went from fine and eating tons of crickets at Christmas to that skinny thing which was shown in the picture. They don't get fat in a day and they don't get emaciated and on death's door in a day.

Fine, call me a stupid owner. Call me irresponsible.

The only other time the gecko had a problem was back in 2008, when the carpets were cleaned.
He recovered from that just fine. I did feel his weight today and he was unusually thin.
Not to mention, I was able to move him and touch his back. Usually he sprint a bit, if I touched him.

I apologize if the environment isn't up to your "standards". Because he's made it just fine in this environment before.
Fine, lock the thread and delete my account. I'll just go my way, get him crickets tomorrow and keep an eye on him.

I'm not trolling. I'm just simply wanting to see what could be going with on my gecko.

You were told what needed to be done to fix your setup and you were all like.. Oh, I suppose I could give it clean substrate.. Sometime.. When it's nice out. If you cared AT ALL, you would be jumping all over the advice and would have at least taken out the substrate (which for the record looks like Wood Chips and not any Coconut Fiber I've ever seen) and put in paper towels. And grabbed some stuff to make hides. Doing those things doesn't cost ANY money. You could dump that stuff out and slap some paper towels or something on the bottom, grab some old boxes or cheap plastic containers, whatever is around, cut a hole in the side and given it the hiding spots it needs. So if you aren't a troll (which I am SERIOUSLY NOT convinced of) then why did you care enough to post about your gecko on a forum, but don't care enough about it to fix it's setup? The whole substrate and making hides thing is FREE and takes hardly NO time. So yea.. I'm still going with troll. And trolls like attention, so I'm out.

To OP, i understand where your coming from because you are trying to do something with ur life and have more important priorities. This being said you should understand you dont have the time required to take care of the lizard and should do the responsible thing in the situation. Although I do have a problem with the situation myself, you just cant stay out of people's business can u CALAMITY. I figured my newbie post that u flamed was one of the few and I probably did something stupid. But reading through these forums it has really become apparent to me that you seem to enjoy giving beginners a hard time. Maybe if you had a life other than spending hours upon this forum you may be able to empathize with certain people's situations rathering than making it out as if it were the end of the world. And dont worry you wont see me on these forums again...prick

No one can empathize with the OP because the OP is an idiot.

You'd think a senior forum member wouldn't be in such a rush to put new hobbyists down...

Have you not read the first two pages of this thread?
There has been lots of helpful information, members have even offered to take this pet into their homes.
Rush? Nah.

Also, not sure if anyones noticed but all senior members who were of value have left this forum. I can think of at least 5 or 6 that used to post daily that are no where to be seen. Why? Because of the attitude of "newbies" and the horrible downhill turn leopard gecko keeping is becoming.
