Concerned about my gecko's health?

Have you not read the first two pages of this thread?
There has been lots of helpful information, members have even offered to take this pet into their homes.
Rush? Nah.

Also, not sure if anyones noticed but all senior members who were of value have left this forum. I can think of at least 5 or 6 that used to post daily that are no where to be seen. Why? Because of the attitude of "newbies" and the horrible downhill turn leopard gecko keeping is becoming.
For the record, if you're not aware, the "flaming" this person is complaining about me performing is when they posted a thread asking what morph their new very skinny gecko is. They said they put it in with their other leos, and I replied:
All new reptiles should be quarantined for six months - preferably in another part of the house, but definitely not put in with other reptiles. And one this skinny should definitely not be in with other leos because 1) it could be sick and 2) it could easily be bullied out of food. Definitely move it immediately.
And that's why the person's mad at me. I know. I'm a terrible person. :)

I also noticed a different forum member told them the exact same thing first and wasnt cried about.
Confusing.

Well Katie pretty much hit the nail on the head. I don't post much anymore, because of the downhill turn she was speaking of. It's like.. people post OMG! I got a Leopard Gecko! Now what do I do with it?!?! And then when they are told, they are like.. Oh, well.. Meh.. I THINK I'M GONNA START BREEDING THEM RIGHT NOW! Makes me want to barf.

It gets irritating, but I'd rather see people who will actually take the advice get it and deal with the pricks than no one get advice at all. I do wish people would be more reasonable about things though.

Oh I am all for giving new people advice. And I have no problem when they are reasonable and willing to learn. But SO many people just don't seem to care about proving a proper set up anymore. I see all these posts about sick leos, and when people are told, "Hey, your set up isn't good for a leo." They just don't seem to care. It's like.. Why post about your leo's issues if you aren't going to take the advice given? That's why I don't even bother giving advice, because it seems like, more often than not, it goes in one ear and out the other.

Well its been fine in that crappy setup for months so I'm right, theyve lived together and they have fought YET, or they argue their degree in blah blah gives them exceptional knowledge in an unrelated subject.
It deeply saddens me. All those poor geckos. I understand people listen a little better when you coddle them, but my patience wears thin.

Although I certainly cannot empathize with the OP, I have made these mistakes myself with my first gecko when I was 17 too! Calcisand, no thermostat, no moist hide, housed together. But I got my crap in gear, researched and made appropriate changes so my geckos could live good lives. All those things in your setup can be changed very easily but unfortunately your gecko looks to be in bad shape

I don't think this problems happened recently but rather over a long term. That extremely thin tail takes a while to get to that condition. It looks like hasn't been eating a for a long while and has been continually dipping into it's tails fat storage. Geckos are hardy and resilient and often do not display sickness or weakness in order to preserve their survival in the wild. If you see such a drastic change in behaviour for the worse, along with a body in that kind of condition, you must know it's approaching it's breaking point.

How fat was the tail before? Do you have before and after pics and a general timeframe all this weight loss has taken place? Have you explained to your dad how seriously ill your gecko is or have a part time job you can help pitch in some of the vet cost? You're saying how he's survived in this environment before.. But have you thought that's just what he's doing: only surviving... Barely surviving, slowly losing weight steadily it's immune system getting weaker and weaker until the point it can almost take no more... which seems to be now judging by it's tail. Pets should be thriving, not just surviving.

Please update us on your gecko!

I actually didn't consider that. But then again, I notice that he normally wouldn't eat all of the crickets in one day. So I never saw him eat the rest and occasionally I would just find a few corpses of uneaten crickets.
Currently, he seems to move around a bit, but otherwise, he's not doing much.

I'm gonna get him crickets and hope that it helps him get back on his feet.

The only thing that is possibly going to get that reptile "back on it's feet" is seeing a vet. That gecko is knocking on deaths door and "get him crickets" is not going to fix this issue. Since you don't seem to want to accept that, there is nothing else to be said to you.

Half the reason I wouldnt recommend/use that substrate is cause it would be next to impossible to ensure he's even getting his feeders. Crickets and worms of any sort can be tricky little hiders especially if you just let them roam around in there (which I would never recommend). I honestly feel horrible about this entire situation here. Take the animal to the vet, I would really be surprised if he could even eat, and the fact he never got proper nutrients at least from 2007 on has probably made your gecko so weak he may not even be able to safely eat anything without causing more problems. His bones are probably so brittle and deformed by now. I'm not trying to come down on you more, I just wish you would understand the severity in this issue. Get him to the Vet. Even of you don't have the money, call the vet and ask if there is something you can do like payment plan and or get a hold of a local rescue that could help you get this guy the proper care. Just like on here, people actually care. I would think any good caring vets office would strike a deal in this situation to try and save the poor thing. My vet has helped me out on occasion with a dog I had that was experiencing a lot of issues. Ended up spending close to 3,000 dollars in just a few months. They knew how much I was spending routinely and tried to help me out because I tried to do anything in my power to make sure I was doing the right thing. I waited on fixing car issues because they were my pet/friend/family member, and it was and is my responsibility to make sure everything they need is taken care of. Just please take everyone's advice and SEE A VET ASAP. NO EXCUSES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I spent way more time than I should have coming up with a helpful post only to have it ignored... Not even one of the questions I posed were even answered.
I know there is a lot of info to digest here but don't you realize your gecko has been dying since 2007?!?
Kylerbassman, I feel terribly for the poor little gecko but why spend time thinking of different scenarios for the OP? It will go ignored!

We all have given PRECIOUS information and all we get is an next to useless post "hoping" crickets will get him back on his feet..:main_thumbsdown::main_thumbsdown::main_thumbsdown:

Well, as much as I agree that I'm probably wasting my breath. I guess there is apart of me that just wants to help so badly because I do feel so bad for the Gecko. I have a general love for animals period, and feel so helpless in this situation and situations like this. I feel like the only thing I can do is give every bit of advice I can think of. I try saying it in the nicest way possible as I don't want the OP to turn away and not do anything because he's upset with the responses he gets. It can feel very offensive at times as there are such strong comments. Not saying I don't agree with them, just saying last thing I want to do is push him away from a place that really does offer some of the best info out there. That doesn't mean I approve or can really believe the situation. Still just so surprised/sickened with the whole thing

Alright, since he didn't respond to the crickets I got today, we're going to call the exotic veterinarian tomorrow.(There was a mixup with my memory. That exotic vet had a problem with a couple of staff members, not his business, which is still running.)
Once we take him into the vet, we'll see what's up.

We already know what's up. You're killing it. It's not a mystery to anyone but you.

A mod should probably just close this thread at this point, or we need to all just stop. This person's either an idiot or a troll, but either way, we're not doing any good to a leo that may or may not even exist.

I would more than agree that this thread should be closed. We can only hope beyond the OPs apparent lack of concern, maybe a few 20 yr old know it all's may finally get a clue. Sadly I doubt either will really get it.

To an even greater concern maybe a couple of 20 yr old know it all's might also get a clue as to when the majority of the "long time" posters left.. yet again, I REALLY doubt their "I know it all" attitudes will let them get that either.

Age has nothing to do with it.
Also if youd like to elaborate?
