hiya guys! I'm getting a new gecko from Petco (gulp) next week on Tuesday or Wednesday depending on when my check clears. I just have a couple of questions.

Is a 20 long tank to big for a baby? Its probably only about 3-4 in long max when i went in yesterday. I can provide a smaller plastic container if necessary.

I SHOULD feed pre-gutloaded pinhead crickets right? just checking to make sure on the size(and yes, they need to be calcium dusted)

Any other info you have would be great!!

I have been researching these wonderful lizards for about a month now and i know what to do when it gets bigger just have those questions for the baby.
Thanks!!!

i bought a female from petsmart and i wasnt very happy with my experience the gecko wasnt in the best health when i got her and didnt eat a bite for 2 weeks so i returned her and bought a gecko from someone here on GF (thehiddengecko) actually bought 3 and i was much happier with the transaction and the state of health of the geckos everything went fine they were shipped from illinois to florida. tips...dont use sand use paper towl its easiest for cleaning and sanitary and i think the best for them, use underbelly heat u can get a sticky heating pad from petco and get a digital temp sensor with probe and a lamp dimmer from home depot and try to get you temp around 90-92 i dont dust every feeding only sometime but i always leave calcium in the cages...i dont use D3 some people choose to dust w d3 sometimes but i dont like it for my geckos. gutloading is good for all your geckos food...oh i think a 20 will be okay for a baby i dont see why there would be a problem...make sure you have a moist hide on the cool side of the cage and a dry hide on the warm side, always keep clean water for them to drink and maybe dont handle too much until the gecko gets a little bigger and more farmiliar with you....im sure i missed stuff but i hope that helps

I think pinhead crickets will be a bit small even for a baby. 1/4" should be fine. If they're too small the baby can't see them and they might be too fast for it to catch them. If you let us know where you live, there might be a breeder in your area as an alternative to a pet store.

thanks for the replies so far! I live in Carver, MA which is near plymouth in southeastern MA if you don't know where that is. I'm pretty sure it is just a reg gecko but it is way to small to tell right now.

And the price is 18 bucks with Petco pals card. Getting a kit they sell with a 20 long tank, repti-carpet (probably going to end up with newpaper or buying a different kind of carpet), lighting (will be replaced the following week with an undertank heater), a hide, and a water dish. the kit is 120 bucks
