Maybe we can calm down a little bit.

Bruce, Pat is just trying to help. I am not saying either of you are dumb, by far smarter then I but sometimes it's best to look at someones advice and take it into deep consideration. It really could help.

And Pat you out of all people should know as a vet that people get worked up when it comes to their pets. People love their pets and something like this can cause people to lash out when they don't mean too.

I definetly do not want to make a thread that is suppose to be about helping/getting information to get heated. I was just trying to help you bruce, and im sorry if it might have come off a bit harsh. Im passionate about reptiles, just like you, and was just trying to give you another possible option.

i wish i was a vet...lol Just a certified tech with years of experience. But agreed this should be cooled down, and bruce please let us know if there is anything we can do to help your situation.

I agree that this thread needs to cool off. When someone posts something as serious as this and leaves out pertinent information, we can only try to read between the lines and assume the facts. Pat is a veterninary technician, and a breeder of geckos... so I can safely say that he only has the welfare of the animals in mind and knows what he is talking about.

Crypto is the only parasitic infection that has no cure and is always fatal in geckos. Almost every other infection can be cured if diagnosed and treated in time. Crypto strikes fear in the hearts of all reptile keepers, and to assume geckos are infected with this deadly parasite without a positive diagnosis is basically sentencing the animals to death needlessly.

The costs of a correct diagnosis and treament certainly outweighs the cost of losing a collection of geckos!

listen I agree with everybody, wholeheartedly, and I've never been angered by anything that was said, we as a people are very much the same when it comes to our animals, passionate, caring, and loving. I want nothing more than to run complete tests on each and every one of my geckos, but the true fact is that your friend Bruce has met some times of severe financial duress, I'm trying desperatly to keep my head above water, I don't nessecarily want to go into detail about my money problems, but i'll just say that things are bad right now,as they must be for a lot of you out there right now, last year I would have had no problem diagnosing the killer. This is my life, everything I have goes into these little guys, the last medical problem I had was ma few months ago in august, one of my hatchlings from last year developed an eye infection

I took her to the vet and he prescribed an ointment that needed nto be applied to the eye four times a day, a week later the eye ballooned up and I had to take her back to the vet, he then performed a minor surgery taking off a layer of skin off of the top of the eye, I paid for new medication from a real pharmacy, 55dollars for a bottle. the drops needed to be applied to her eye four times a day, at this time i've been talking to jeff, already for severel months, Jeff and me were engaged in a deal, Jeff as anybody who knows him knowsthat he is a modest man, Independently weathy, very honest, and very knowledgable about AFT'S. he claims to have had them for over 20 years. Anyways I've been to his Breeding Facility in Ohio, an offer he usually does not extendto a dude who just wants to buy a single gecko. I'f any body can say they have had more experience with aft's and crypto in afts, they might be able to help me, but the fact is, I already know everything you guys are telling me, exept where to get a 15 dollar fecal, I need to move to PA. !5 dollar fecal sounds dirty. When I told Jeff about the eye problem (Ulcerated Cornea) he told me right away that thats not a good sign, he said that eye infections usually only pop up when there is an outbreak of crypto, now After another month and a week the eye healed and we both thought maybe she just actually got it from the debris thats in the substrate I use, Forest bedding.

during the next month or so about three of my adult females that I've had for over a year start losing wieght, ones gravid right now, the only gecko's theyve come in contact with was the male that I've had for two years, who has the shameless smile on the avatar, Captain. The feces was a greenish tint and one of thiers was runny, now yes they could have something else, but Jeff was 90 percent positive that It was crypto, he said that green feces also indicates worms hence the panacur, he told me to use it once a week for eight weeks on every gecko.now he also informed me that these are safe meds and they would not hurt the gecko's even if they did not need it. and my vet had no problem writing me a script. without a vet visit. after two weeks Lydia died. RIP lydia Dracoulious. I cut her open to take a look at her organs, Before I did Jeff told me what to look for, Enflamed Intestines and a bloated mottled liver, It was dead on. Jeff seems to have changed his prediction from 90 to 99.9 percent, so just going off the information I have I also assume the killer is crypto. now I'm not just going to sit back and accept the fate I want a 100percent diagnosis. ther is still a dozen geckos in my collection, and I would like to keep it that way,

today I'm faced with an empty wallet and bank account, four of my geckos are showing symptoms, one of them is pandora the young gecko that had the eye infection, the only good news is that the other eight geckos are eating fine and show no signs of illness, which means there is still time and hope for my colony providing viable offspring. And the next time possible I can throw down the cash for tests It will be done without any hesitation. like I said before these geckos are my life, and my future, and I am doing everything in My power to help them. I appreciate eveyones concern and advice, and anything that was said to me In this thread, I take as freindly advice. I'm at my wits end and anybody who shares the passion like I would feel me on this. and please do not think of jeff, unproffessionally, he is the future of these geckos and he would never doomsay a collection on a hunch, also the problems he's had in the past is his business, and he's done more reasearch on the disease than most. If there is anybody I would buy Geckos from In the future It would Be JMG, and there would not be any shred in my mind of the heath and well bieng of any of geckos that he provides.

Bruce, if there's anything I can do to help let me know. I live about 30 minutes or so. Heck if all it costs for a fecal exam is 15 or 20 bucks I will pay for it myself.

I Just did the feedings and another one passed, RIP Limey Apu Darjeeling. Thank you Shaun for your generous outreach. I get paid this friday and If it's possible I will get the tests done. Unfortunatly the fecals run about 30 to 40 dollars the last time I did one. Where do you live Shaun?

I live in Lake Orion. I sent out an email to all the vets I know around asking for pricing.

By the way I just talked to Jeff, This whole thing is his opinion and he himself also advised me to get tests done, so don't bother him anyway that is really between me and Jeff in the first place, so mind your own business people, you know who you are

Bruce, I am so very sorry you and your geckos are going through this! What a horrific situation you are in. Your geckos may very well have crypto, but there is a chance they do not. Part of being a responsible keeper is being able to sustain the financial burden of their veterinary care. I know there is a severe shortage of qualified herp vets, and the expense is high. I understand that you have a certain degree of credence to what JMG has told you, but I would like to reiterate that they are NOT veterniarians, and cannot make a vaild diagnosis of what is going on with your geckos simply by discussihng symptoms with you.

Your situation is dire right now. Only YOU can determine what is the best course of action to take at this time based on the circumstances. The Geckoforums.net community is behind you no matter what...
