Why?

I dont know the physical differences, all I know if when I worked a vet clinic, we couldnt euthanize reptiles with c02. It works differently for them, and they dont peacefully fall asleep and die like a mammal.

I think everyone has a different idea on what is humane. Culling is unpleasant anyway so it is hard to think of it as humane either way you put it. I thin quick is the best way so if it is not sick with a disease it will be fed off otherwise it will be aa trip to the vet. If its cosmetic or otherwise not risking quality of life it will go to a school or other place as pet only.

That link says it is an approved way. Maybe your clinic had different policies and procedures. Opinions are varied as this thread shows.

There are multiple, not-that-old threads on the subject with a great deal more detailed information. Not singling anyone out and it doesn't detract from the informed responses of many who have participated, but this incarnation seems to have gone to some places that lack a certain... credibility.
