so I checked in on the eggs last night, and i was excited to see that I had a baby mack snow albino... with no eyelids.
I was wondering what causes deformities in leos?? this is the second deformed animal I have had hatch!! incubator is at 86, don't know the humidity, but i am having no problems hatching...

The general consensus is that eye lid deformities are caused by a lack of Vitamin A in the mother. Some also believe that they can be caused by temperature fluctuations during incubation. The second photo was in poor taste, but that's just my opinion....

Try doing a search for "eye lid deformities".

Um, perhaps in the future, you could warn people prior to showing pictures like that. :main_no:

Eyelid deformities are likely caused by a vitamin A deficincy. Try supplementing your geckos with a supplement that has vitamin A in it.

There is nothing graphic in my opinion, its the circle of life, it's nature...
But I do apologize if people found it Graphic
What types of food items are high in vitamin A? whether is an actual feeder, something to feed to the feeders, or a specific brand of supplement.

Do you felt you needed to show everyone the second picture? I think the picture was in extremely poor taste and I am sure the moderators of this site would agree that that garbage doesn't belong here. That is nearly as bad as the crap people have posted on another site. Perhaps this gecko could have lead a normal life? Do you even know if was blind or couldn't blink. Last year I hatched a Mack Ghost with slight eyelid deformities and she is still alive and thriving today. I am hoping that she will have a nice new home with a responsible owner very soon. She would even make a nice breeder for someone as this deformity is not known to be genetic.

I truly do not understand how that is cruel... cruel would have been letting it live, only to die.

WOW. I completely agree... that photograph was in EXTREMELY poor taste, and in my opinion, should not have been posted.

There are humane ways of euthanizing, if completely necessary. What you have posted here is inhumane, and most likely would have been very painful for the animal. In my opinion, this thread should be closed...

I do not think that it was necessary to post the second picture, and I also do not see what the big issue is. People post pics of their snakes feeding, their leos feeding, and also post pictures of other deformed animals. If the Mods thought that that was a truly horrific picture, this thread would not exist. There are no pictures of the actual feeding.

The animal was born without fully developed eyelids, this was not a minor deformity. I know it couldn't blink, the eyelids were fused together and there was no skin where the actual 'lid' was supposed to be. The last thing I want to do is kill an animal unnecessarily, or cause it undue suffering. I do not have a C02 chamber, and freezing is far from humane and natural. If an animal like this is born the natural consequence for its unfortunate being, is death. Whether it is predation, or suffering until death. I chose the former.

Mods removed the picture before I had the chance.

In the future, if you also don't think it's necessary, perhaps don't post it in the first place. That would avoid all of this.
