Hears some advice, that may help you, first you never try and hold geckos after getting them? I usually go a good two weeks before even attempting to hold them, This way they get used to you milling around in there environment, and realize your no threat to them. When you first get a gecko and automaticlly go in like a golden eagle your just causeing stress and your not tameing your gecko that way. preditors of geckos in the wild come in usually from above mainly speaking of birds. the best chance your gonna have at this is just leave the gecko be for at least a week then start in the opposite end of the cage as the gecko,
put your hand down ,let it get used to it for a few then slowly move toward it? Dont make many movements, Then rather than forceing it, be still and let him decide when he wants to go on your hand. Its never good to force them, once he gets used to your hand then you slowly take him out. but not to far your gonna have to take it a step at a time hear.

but dont just put your hand right at the gecko and say comeon, its not gonna work. I have had a couple of these Demon geckos!! And if you do it right it will work if not its gonna think of you as a threat and a target. Slow and steady is the key!!!!!

DID THE OPEN PALM THING and bite, bite bite!!!!
gonna try the fist thing,
i was gonna breed her in 2 months but will she kill the other gecko????
as soon as a hand goes in there in front of her face, bam!!!!

what is her cage like? temps, hides, and what do you have her on? what are you feeding her. The word "Fingers" Got me. sometimes if you only show your fingers or Wiggle them or even hover your hand over them Unsure to pick them up. they will get scared and BAM. your bite. A little gecko looking up like that only seeing your Huge hand with big fingers. Has to be super scary. She doesn't know you mean her no harm..For all she knows your a hungry Hawk Grabbing her up. if everything in your cage is right. maybe you should warm up to her with a pair of gloves. Dont put your hand over the gecko. try making it like a "ramp" where they can clime up. Be slow and easy. good luck!

:main_yes: I had the same problem so i just used some gloves and now she is not afraid at all

Positive reinforcement can work for geckos too

Start by associating your hands with good things.

Put your hand the opposite end of the tank quietly. Then with your other hand toss in a waxworm or other such "treat".

I Just Got Mine Too..
2 Female..
3Mths Old Leo..
They Do Not Bite,But I Noe They Are Scared..
Cause Everytime I Put My Hand In,
To Change Water Or Top Up Mealies..
They Would Go Into Their Hide..
So I Haven Wanna Hold Them..
I Would Leave In Their New Environment 1wk-2wk..
Before Trying To Handle Them..
Just Do The Cleaning,Change Water & Food..
Patience Is The KEY..!!

Here is a little info, that may come in handy, I am actually shocked no one mentioned it.

This method is best used AFTER allowing the proper acclimation time in which any reptile needs to adjust to a new enviorment.

But see, all animals like to test the "water." And all animals have a different personality. Sometimes you get a 100% tame, doesn't care about anything kinda pet. But in most cases you get a sweet little thing whos a bit offish because they havent had enough human contact. "Expecially with babies from petstores, which is one of the reasons a reputable breeder is usually reccomended.

But my point is, any new pet is going to test the water. You may find your gecko will "test" about every response in which may get it what it wants. In this case its to be left alone.

So what I am saying is your leopard gecko most likely is not mean at all, but trying to get its way with you.

The best thing to do is to keep regularly interacting with your gecko, but not so much as to where your gecko becomes overwhelmed. Eventually your gecko will realize if you do not react the way it thinks you will, that biting, hissing, squeeking does not work. And it will eventually stop.

But this is a "in most cases scenario."

This could take time, the best thing to do, is keep trying, and allways keep your leopard geckos happyness and health in mind as you do it.

Hope it helps.

Ps I apologize if my spelling or grammar is off, its pretty late here.

Patience ia always the key. Some leos tame immediately and some are nasty as hell, or just plain terrified of us. For the tough ones let them get used to you feeding, cleaning, etc. and hearing your voice. Talk in a smooth calm tone and say "it's OK" a lot...they get to know that to be a good thing. They are smart. Also say "good girl" or Boy, a lot. They calm right down after a while and know these phrases are good for them to hear. Do not make sudden moves or noises, and move in a smooth soft way at all times when cleaning etc.
Keep loud noises, music, screaming children, dogs barking etc. away as much as possible for the first few weeks as those things really stress some new leos. I keep the door closed to my new leo room so to minimize the noise factor, pots and pans clanking, etc.
Once you get them trained you will be able to do most anything with them...remember you will have these for years, so slow down on the training, and be patient!

Honestly...

I found the gecko's that I have, the ones I left alone the most are the ones that now tolerate handling the most. The ones that seem to come out have to "inspect" what I'm doing, that I've come into contact with more, are more tempermental if I try to pick them up.

My one female which I barely ever see, or handled when younger, I now can pick up and rub her head, belly, flip her onto her back and she just sits there. Same with my AFT, I just let her be all the time but when and if I pull her out to give a quick cuddle she's perfectly fine. The ones that I've handled way more (Gremlin + Dragula) these guys would come out to see me, crawl onto my hand. Only want to be touched and handled when they feel like it for only as long as they want it. Star + Athena (the females I'm talking about) like I said don't give me a "time limit". However, there is also Manson (my other female) who has, and still is the mega b!tch! I've never handled her except for when cleaning and that's been it. She squeaks and nips once she hears the door open to her cage! CRANKY!!!!! Lastly my newest Kewpee, well she's inbetween. When I have her out shes perfect angel. When trying to get her out, she's guarding the gates of hell.

I have a few geckos that you just have to watch or else you can get bitten. Some have been that way since I got them and some were that way and calmed down after a while. I also have quite a few sucks as well lol! I have one Albino het Diablo that cannot be handled. She does not want to be picked up so I dont. I have one that at the beginning would attack everytime you went near her and today she decided that she wanted to sit on my hand! I have another one that some days is fine and then bam hits you as you take his water dish to clean!!!
I think it really depends on the personality of the gecko. One she settles in totally work slowly with her and she what she wants.
