hi all
i need a bit of info from you all. has anyone crossed to a normal? the reason is because after all the debate over inherited problems, i have out-crossed all of mine to a group of normals (not yet aware of hidden genes in them except het for tremper, proven last year)
however from two of these normal mothers (to date)i am getting all of the enigmas showing completly black eyes (nova).
is this normal? has anyone else observed this in hatchlings
hope you can help
rob.

I have not but I plan to do so next year with some wild caught bloodlines, I think it would help get rid of the some of the defects that enigmas have.

I don’t know if it is normal to get this with black eyes, as I don’t know anybody else who as done this cross. But with new morphs sometimes there are things that they just do, that we do not expect. And a Nova is a R.A.P.T.O.R. enigma. An enigma with black eyes, that carry the eclipse eye gene are called B.E.E. (Black Eye Enigmas) I don’t think there is really a name for normal enigmas with black eyes, I know when crossed with a mack they also get some black eyes, and they aren’t really given a specific name.

Sounds like you have some "secret agent" Mack snows...if so, the eyes will lighten as they grow--they'll still be relatively dark, but not solid black, as they appear now. The blizzard eye trait could also be responsible for this...

see how Bell enigmas have red eyes, and Tremper enigmas have orange eyes, Mack snow enigmas have super dark black looking eyes...how long until we have totally transparent geckos with mirrored eyeballs??? :D

Are the eyes staying solid black? We've had some tang x Enigma babies that hatched with very dark eyes that almost looked solid black.

The babies I hatched with solid black eyes from macks all changed to dark eyes - but not solid black. My best guess is that they will change too, so just keep watching. ;)

They look about like the eyes that our Tang Enigmas have. I think they are normal just extra dark but not solid like some of the Mack Enigmas. At least not the first and the second looks younger so they look darker.

I see a pupil in the eyes of that first little one... so I also say they have dark eyes, but not black eyes...

it'll be neat to see how they turn out, though. :)
