Sorry, I am of no help when it comes to genetic abnormalities, but have seen plenty of eyes like those and the eyes are one of the cool things about enigmas if you ask me.

I second the eyes being the cool thing about the enigmas! It almost seems as if one could line breed the eye color as many have the tangerines in years past. As Matt said I did notice the more colorful the geckos skin puigment the more colorful the eyes tend to be. Dunno what the hecks goin on, but cant wait to see what is in the future!

To me, it looks like overlaying pigment (the red/orange) rather than an absense of pigment in those areas. It has a very solid pigmented look, where as blood would be more transparent looking, and I doubt it would show up as orange. It's not a perfect way of explaining it, but I tend to look at colors in terms of layers, and that's what it looks like to me. :main_robin:

You must be an artist too... ;)
Thats exactly how I see it as well... There does not seem to be any lack of pigmentation at all. Infact it seems to be the complete opposiste...
I am pretty bent on them not being ocular albinos... I do agree that the eyes are amazing all the same no matter what is causing the color to be what it is... In my opinion Enigmas have limmitless potential once everything is worked out...

Killer pics by the way Kelli... That one with the REALLY orange eyes is so beautiful.

Interesting thread by the way. I love enigma eyes and I really hope you can find out what the nice orange eyes depend on.

Could we be overthinking the eyes? I look at it as people have different shades of eye color and some color is dominant right? So could it be the same as in the enigmas? If you look at other morphs, they have varying shades of eye color too. I'm thinking of bells at the moment-I've seen eyes super red and others with hardly no red.
Am I reading right-the mack enigmas have no red/orange pigment? I would think the mack gene has something to do with that?
