Enigma...What to breed with it?

HI Everyone,

Greg M. referred me to this wonderful site. He saw my confusion on another forum and told me to come over here, and I am so glad I did. I was so fortunate to obtain an Enigma from Kelli. (Thanks Kelli again, she is beautiful) I got the #20 that says sold to KM on her site. My husband wanted to buy me diamond earing for Valentines day but I opted for the Leo instead (Yes, he thinks I am nuts). I want to take pics of her but since she just came in yesterday I am trying not to disturb her to much until she acclimates in better.

Everyone on here seems so wonderful about helping others and so patient in explaining all the genetic mumbo jumbo that I wanted to ask some advice. I have no idea what to breed to my Enigma, so if you could breed her to any morph out there what would you choose. I have an Aptor male and super snow male now but don't mind shelling out more dough to get a male that is good enough for her. I have been reading on all the post out their on Enigmas and it seems that I may need to stick to a Bell line morph, so any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
Kendra McWilliams

Welcome to the best Leo forum around!

If you have the money I'd rrecommend getting a Mack Snow Bell to pair her with. This way you'll be able to prove her to be het Bell or not and make Enigma Mack Snows. Good luck and I'm looking forward to the pics!

Thats a Great Idea! I would probably do that if I could afford an Enigma.

Congrats on hooking up with an enigma. They are...well.....enigmatic for certain. I'd also say that a bell albino would be a great choice. Maybe a stripe bell even!

LOL, a member in this site has a signature that says something like "Diamonds aren't a woman's best friend... It's geckos!", I don't remember who. That lyric seems to fit you perfectly (I also would rather take an expensive gecko over a diamond, haha!).

:beatnik: Women... They are all the same.

Well, going back to the topic. I think you should try the Bell thing to be sure about the genetics of your gecko (and, why not, blood-red eyes are always nice). Another cool project would be a golden eyed super snow. But since we don't know how does this morph work in combination with other morphs but Bell albinos, the results can be disappointing (or maybe outstanding, we won't know until we try!).

i agree with the others...buy a bell male...and try to produce some red eys enigma..
you have a ton of choice: there are a ton of kind of different tipe of bell or bell crosses, so try to found what do you like most and breed him with your enigma ...and....KEEP US UPDATE WITH BABIES FROM THEM! ;)
wellcome to the best geckosforum in the world!

Congrats on your enigma! I would choose an enigma over a diamond anyday. Good choice! I agree with everyone else that you should breed her to a bell line gecko.

Anyway, I am still not sure who to pair mine up with... But I have a while to figure it out... I am sure you will make the right choice...

Not a decision I am willing to make. LOL It is really too bad, I would have loved to work on crossing them into more morphs than just one.:main_no:

Are you serious? Kelli did say an Enigma Tremper was made... People are going to cross them with other stuff than just Bells. It's just that in the beginning stages they should be proved out first so that's why everyone is saying to breed them with Bells. Once males are available you'll change your mind! :main_thumbsup:

It depends on what your working towards I havent looked at your specific enigma, but from what ive seen, there are whiter ones, tangy ones, and i believe there might have been a stripe? My suggestion is to check which yours most closely resembles, and try to bring that trait out as best as possible in your offspring, and oviously since its beleived that the red eyes are caused by the bell albino gene, and they are all possible het bell albino, i would make sure to get the bell albino version ;-) aka(bell hybino, snow bell(the whitest one you can find) or a bell stripe. Good luck I look forward to pics and hearing your desision

Michael, yes like you said. The best choice will be to breed to a Bell because they are possible hets, the problem is then you either get Bell Enigmas or hets. If you bred an Enigma to something other than Bell, you will not be able to prove them without the Bell gene for quite awhile.

You cannot IMO cross that into the Trempers or Rainwater Albinos. That is the only reason that would be a bad thing, and thats just me!

They may not be for me, because I want the choice from the start to breed a male to four or five females of a few different morphs. If that were possible they just may be het for Bell at this point, which is a problem for me. I think Jeremy posted this but "Crossing the lines, is, well crossing the line" :main_thumbsup: LOL

Sets too many limits for my taste with the above mentioned concerns.

My idea was you could get a male when they're available and throw a Bell with him to prove him out. There'd be two good outcomes: He proves not a het and you score or he proves to be het and you hatch Enigma Bells (AKA Red Eyed Enigmas). Sell the male and his offspring and buy some of the stuff you couldn't afford before! LOL!

Gregg, I`m saying me personally, I cannot breed a Bell or possibly het Bell to one. Thats all I mean by that. It would take me a bit to prove MY Enigmas without the Bell gene if I bred them to something else. I wouldnt want to chance it until then.

Michael, all Im saying is, only females available limits me a little too much, I would pretty much feel obligated to breed it to a Bell, then could never do Trempers with those. For that type of money I would like to have more choices.

I totally agree. It's definitely not worth it to get a female if you want to use it for Tremper crosses.
