Enigmas that are more prone to stress and light

I am planning to get an enigma for my first and only breeding project. I had read most of the posts about the few enigmas that had abnormal behavior; just wondering if there is a particular enigma cross or sex that are more prone to stress and bright light.

Are females and red-eyed enigmas more prone to the problem?

Bonnie, I only have one Enigma--a Striped ('red-eyed') Bell Enigma. I can tell you that he has displayed absolutely no signs of any of the 'abnormalities' that some have. He is a little light sensitive, but no more so than any of my other albinos, Tremper or Bell.

Hope that helps a little. Good luck on your project!

Bonnie I have 9 enigmas now and the only one that I have problems with the light is my bell enigma the albino enigmas eyes are sensitive all the others are fine probaly 4 of them have the nerve problem though but its way better now they are older. and the bell enigmas not as ensitive now its older. Thats my experiance, so I hope that helps a little.

I seen a bunch a BELL spinners at Daytona and I am not talking about the Albino strian ;)

No bell albino enigmas in my collection so can't comment, but maybe 2- 3% of my enigmas I hatched this year acted funny and those few grew out of it. Even if they act funny, that doesn't mean they won't grow, thrive, breed and be happy.

Thanks for the info! :) How about the sex of the gecko? Does anyone notice any trend?

From viewing my few hatchling Bell Enigmas, I think that the "odd behaviour" is due to them being extremely sensitive to light. They act normal when in the dark, but if I pull them out of my rack during the day, they start to try to "run" from the light. In circles! It seems pretty obvious to me, that is what they are doing.

They did this right out of the egg, and as they are growing seem to be less sensitive, and acting more normal, when exposed to light.

We had a couple of Bell Enigmas from our first Enigma breeding that were goofy but offspring of one of the goofy ones show no signs of anything strange. I think it was a combination of light sensitivity and lack of out crossing in the original Enigmas. Oh, and one of the goofy ones was male and the other was female.

May I ask, the enigmas that does not show any signs of strange behavior, do they behave absolutely no difference to all other non-enigma morphs? Or are they more skittish?

Sorry for asking so many questions, but I plan to do ONE breeding project only and I intend to keep most of the off-springs myself (as pets); so I want to know if Enigma is a good choice for me. I REALLY like the Tremper Enigmas and MS Enigmas, but personality/attitude is also a consideration.

My two enigmas that don't have any weird issues behave just like other leopard geckos. They may be a little more docile than others. At least in my case, neither of mine has ever snapped at me. One is a het bell male, and the other is a het tremper female.

One more thought, to follow up on what Mel&Keith said. I think if you get a recent Enigma that has been outcrossed for several generations, the percentage of circling ones will be very low to non existent.

to be honest only my bells are goofy the others like my las vegas enigma is not light sensitive and acts no different from any of my others along with my just plain enigmas and in fact they seem to all be nice even the bells the bells only circle and the head wobbles when they are in bright light or spooked, but even though they spin they thrive just the same as any others hope this helps I honestly love my enigmas more than most of the others.

Bonnie, all of our "normal or non-goofy" Enigmas act completely normal as any other morph would. The albinos are a little light sensitive than the non albinos when they first hatch but no more so than non-Enigma Albinos. I think that finding an Enigma that has been well outcrossed is more important in determining behavior than the morph.
