i think it's more an aggressive thing or defensive. babies generally do when when they are about to lunge for your finger

Mine will only wave his tail when I've startled or frightened him. If I leave him be, or coo at him and cover him up with my hands, he calms down again pretty fast. :laugh4: Once I accidentally caught him on the head with the back of my thumbnail - major snake-tail action that time. :tongue3:

The tail wave is a defensive posture. Usually it will happen when they are startled or feel threatened. If it happens when you handle the animal try making a cave with your hands. It may be that the animal feels exposed. I've had it happen in the light box before too because they hate how bright it is. Ah, the pain of being beautiful.

I've seen one girl do a slow tail wave at herself in the mirror, it was very pretty! Other than that I have seen tail waves too many times to count.(We've got some feisty ones!) haha

Well between all of my many geckos, I have seen a lot of behaviors involving the "tail wag" I think its just a communication tool to them, not necessarily just an aggressive maneuver. Some of mine will wag their tails while standing up against the glass or plastic "depending on which cage" when they want food. Some will do it just before screeching at a gecko they can see from another cage, some will do it when they want me to go away, but also if you haven't noticed some will straighten out their tails and try to twitch them violently to show they are very intimidated.
