not to be in a meanish tokay attitude, but is that canon lens really that soft?...

Nikkor 60mm f/2.8 micro at 1:1 crop on Nikon D70

Not trying to steal your thunder or come off as a d***. Just surprised at how "soft" some of the pics look for a macro lens.

My camera desperately needs a good cleaning. I have tons of censor dust and my camera gets a ton of use, so sending it off for a few weeks isnt really an option. My pictures dont get a ton of extra processing beyond an auto contrast and cropping and stamping. I work in a "low light" situation, so i use an f stop of about ~14, sometimes as low as a 10 or 12 depending on the gecko, and with an ISO of 400 since I refrain from using an on camera flash, its the best I can do, and still not get 1/2 my shots to be totally blurry [the new medication I am on makes me REALLY shakey] and My shutter speed is usually a 30th-80th of a second.
Last night was also my first night with any lens other then the one that came with my kit. This is also the first SLR camera I have ever used, and I am completely self tought. Ive never taken a class, ive never delt with film, and I dont claim to have been at this stuff for years.

It could be a <edited by staff> lens, it could be my camera. or it could just be because I suck. Who knows? ;)

times 3245963248526349525 LOL I don't have 8 weeks to allow Nikon the time to clean my camera's sensor.

I wouldn't volunteer that on such public forums. :main_rolleyes:

either way, just curious and felt like giving you a hard time, mainly due to using a piece of artillary (a "cannon") for taking photos.

Tamara's image is slightly over exposed and (tokay), your's is under exposed slightly. Her lens has less DOF at the same aperture and the images suffer from slight camera shake caused by the slow shutter speeds. At 1/30 the rear curtain of the shutter will cause camera shake, especially hand held.

I can open tamara's shadows 25% and throw a smart sharpen on it and it'll be just as sharp as that nikkor lens ;)

Believe me, I owned the nikkor 60 and 200 micros before going canon. they are no more sharp than that 100 macro and L glass is warmer to boot.

Yes Eric, all EF mount lenses fit any Canon camera made after 1989(I think that's the year the switch from FD to EF was)

Those are freaking awesome pictures. I like the composition. Very Cool. A lot better than all the photography you see in books regarding leos.
