Got my new gecko yesterday!!! And tonight he ate 4 cricks already. He's a healthy baby even though he is from petco. Pics are soon to come.

Also i have a question. Before he attacked the cricks, he wiggled his tail. Does this mean he is a male or do all geckos do that before they attack their prey? And is it ok to gut-load the cricks with a piece of pineapple and dry dog food? Yes it was 24 hrs before i fed the cricks to him after gut-loading.

Congrats on the new gecko!
It doesnt matter where he is from as long as he is healthy, and eating is a good sign of that.

Wiggling the tail does not mean the gecko is a male. Most do that while they are hunting and about to strike. The way to tell the sex is to look between the two back legs. Males will have pores in a V shape there, as well as bulges at the base of the tail. If you see nothing it means one of two things a. It is too young to sex or B. it's a female

We use a bunch of stuff to gut load our crix- vitamins, oats, carrots, cat food all kinds of stuff. Personally i duno about pinapple, but dry dog food would work.

Hope this helps at least a little! Post some pics of your new leo!

Congrats on the new gecko, cannot wait to see pics!

The tail shaking generally seems to do when they get excited in my experience.

I would use Dog Food like said earlier, and maybe an orange, potato, or apple for water.

thanks guys for the replies so far. I have another question. Are mealies ok to feed baby leos? Or is the exo skeleton to thick for them to digest? I would rather use them due to the ease in keeping them compared to cricks.

EDIT: Pics to come VERY soon. :p

LOL!! Yep, they all wiggle their tails like that (both sexes). Dont ya love to
watch them do that? :D I think it's soooooo cute!

Yes, the fruit (any fruit except citrus) and dog food is OK.
Crics really love that cricket chow they sell at Fluker's too. They also love
apples and carrots.
I would avoid leafy vegies though, unless you can get orginicly grown stuff.
Leafy vegies contain pesticides.
Do you have a pic of him yet? We LOVE leo pics around here. :main_yes:

and another question, i have been feeding him about 5 calcium-dusted crickets a night. This is enough right?

i dust the crickets with Jurrasi-Cal Calcium Supplement w/o Vitamin D3. I'm going to buy a vitamin supplement this weekend probably w/ D3 in it. I will most likely cycle the 2 by using regular calcium supplement on the weekdays and vitamin supplement on the weekends.

thanks guys. I have ONE last question for now. He seems already semi-tame. It doesn't freak out when i pick him up, he stays calmly in my hand or crawls up my arm and onto my shirt, but when i try to pick him up he runs a little. So how tame do you guys think he is? I'm guessing they must have done some handling in ***** before i got him.

Even the most tame leos at that age will still run a little when you first try to pick them up. An untamed leo would freak out a lot more, so it does sound like he is pretty tame already :)

Very cute little one, congrats! :D
