Finding Trustworthy Stores

So I just started on this forum and love all the information so far.

In my search for local reptile stores I am not having much luck outside of the chain stores and I dislike making large purchases from them. Is there a source for buying/finding better local pet stores. Thanks in advance for any help.

I am in the Newark, Ohio area if that helps any.

If you're talking about geckos, consider private breeders. You'll do much better than any petstore. If you're talking about supplies, you could go to online sources. ALso, google "petstores" in your area and you may find out about stores you didn't know about. That's how I found some petstores in the Boston area and then I went to visit them.

In Hilliard there is a store called Jack's Pets and Aquarium. I like that place. I've never been there but the things that my brother brings home are always pretty good.

Are you looking for supplies or a gecko... or both?

I personally find most pet shops to be ridiculously over-priced whether it be a big chain store or a mom and pop shop. Have you looked for reptile shows that might be in your area or in the surrounding towns/cities?

The Jack's Pets place where I went sold every Gecko for $20. I'm not sure how they were kept or anything. I should go next time.

I live in Ohio, and have found the best place for supplies is the internet. We pretty much go with private breeders for our leos.

http://www.leopardgeckosunlimited.com/index.html and
http://www.ohiogecko.com/
are both breeders from ohio (Cincinnati and close to Cleveland respectively). I've only done business with LGO personally but I've been to their house and seen how they keep their geckos. Henry and Jessica are really cool and I love a lot of the babies they breed (*sigh* oh to have unlimited funds to buy geckos with lol).
There is also http://www.allohioshows.com/ right up the road from you in Columbus (June 6th the next date, may be going there myself) and http://www.midwestreptile.com/welcome.html in Indianapolis if you are willing to travel (June 21st the next show).
Hope this helps.

For geckos I would say search the site and find some breeders in your area or find a breeder that is in your region.

As for supplies you can never go wrong with;
reptilesuppy.com
beanfarm.com
bigappleherp.com

Great information so far. I plan on going to the reptile show in Columbus on June 6th. We had seen that several weeks ago and wish we would have noticed it earlier. The Ohio breeders also look great.

I just found a gecko thru a private seller I may have a gecko sooner then expected. I am excited. I will get to check it out this evening.

Any other links to breeders/supplies would still be appreciated. I know how I work and I just cant stop at one of anything.
