I know this has been discussed and Im sorry for bringing it back up. BUt How many of you use regular mealies as a staple? Im currently using crix/mealies, and supers. But Ive noticed people saying they use only mealies? Also is this just adults? I would think the hatchlings and juvies would need both. I dont know though mabey some of you start your hatchlings off on mealies?

I personally always feed and reccomend a varied diet, all my leos get cricks and mealies. Their is nothing wrong with feeding a staple of cricks or mealies though.

I have been sticking to mealies, with the occasional wax worm, and once in a while some crickets.

Variety is probably good. You wouldn't eat the same thing everyday would ya?

ok maybe if it was pizza lol

I raise my hatchlings on mealworms because I want people who buy them to have a relatively easy time with the feeding and I think mealworms are the easiest for a beginner to feed. I supplement occasionally with crickets and silkworms. My geckos eventually decide on their own preference. At this point in my collection of 11, 3 of which were born in my home, some eat only mealworms, some only crickets and some only superworms. Go figure.

I also feed hatchlings strictly mealworms only. When they move to a sweaterbox at around 30 grams I start feeding crickets once a week. After my geckos reach 40 grams they get superworms only and crickets once a week.

I feed my leos a very varied diet... Hatchlings and adults... Meal worms, crickets, super worms, wax worms, Dubia roaches, and I just started ordering butter worms...

Varied is best but a staple of mealies works well for many...

I'd go with only mealies if it wasn't so fun to watch Hidey take down a cricket. I can't let him miss out on the stalk & nab.

We feed mostly mealworms with the occasional cricket, wax, or superworms. We raised crix for awhile and by this point I have a true hatred for the nasty vermin so they are few and far between. I have a few that won't make the switch to primarily to mealies. Juves and babies get mealworms exclusively with the occasional wax. RT has stated that he only uses mealies but I believe a varied diet is best. I have two that will only eat crix so I do need to keep some around for them and but they are starting to make the switch to supers and the occaisonal wax. Crix can often stress out the Leos because they can hide or be hard to catch or hide from them. They also can feed on feces and inturn give parasites to the Leo or re-infect them something you've tried to treat with meds.

Mealies are easy because you can count them and if they are placed in a dish they can be left in without worry of chewing the Leo. Crix are known to nibble on their toes if possible. Also with gravid females they can be stressed because they are a bit slower to move around with the extra weight; especially giants. I have a female thats about to lay this week or next and she's not eating anyway but moves like a sloth because she's so big.

I feed mealies as a staple and give her about 4 crickets twice a week. Once she gets a little bigger I am gonna get some supers and maybe something else for every once in a while, but planning on keeping mealies as the staple.

ok cool. The reinfecting is somthing I was concerned with. Even after treatment I am paranoid lol. And I too believe meallies to be alot easier.

i used to give my geckos both crickets and mealies specailly in winter when mealies are harder to get (many bait shops close up during winter or dont carry them.) but this yr my geckos would not eat them i not sure why but most died in the tank. so i quit i occasionaly get waxworms and if the local pet store ever has any pinkies although th is yr they been hard to come by to.

we feed mealies and silkworms, most of our geckos will eat silkies only one is being difficult and will only eat mealies, butterworms are very exspensive.if you buy the silkies as eggs and buy the food andhatch them yourself it works out cheaper
