As everyone knows Geckos, or lizards sleep a lot. They remain inactive for a large portion of the day, and they do that everyday. What im wondering though, and i might get flack for it, can you put your gecko in a hamster ball for exercise, or even just for the pure joy of seeing him run around the house. Anyone tried this before???

hmm i don't know.. don't those balls have like little slits/holes in them for air.. i would worry about a toe or tail tip getting stuck in there, if the gecko decided to move at all? it might even stress them out?

i think their toes would get stuck or cut off in the slots, i think it might be a bad idea as its abnormal for them i wouldnt try it but you can if you want to try

I have heard of people doing it but would worry about all the cautions given above. Here are some other, safer "gecko-cise" activities:

Geckos on the couch: pull your couch (seat) cushions forward and let the gecko wander behind. It can also climb up the back of the couch and walk around on the pillows. Sometimes they just go into the corner and sit, but I have a few that will really explore

Geckos on the stairs: If you have carpeted stairs, put your gecko on the stairs and see what s/he does. Some of them peer over the side, some try to climb up and some go back and forth. I have one unusually intellgent gecko who is the only one to figure out how to actually climb up the stairs.

Geckos in the blankets: mound up a blanket or quilt on a bed and let the gecko explore the hills and valleys

Needless to say, all these activities require very good supervision.

mine can't really climb the back of the couch, it's leather. oh but she tries repeatdly :main_laugh: it is so funny to watch though. she does love to go inside of the couch however :main_rolleyes: doesn't really care for the whole blanket thing.. but i just let her run around on the living room floor(with supervision of course). she finds pleanty to explore. and gets plenty of excercise :main_thumbsup:

Yah i forgot about the breath holes, yah thats kinda important. It would be fun to see cause i was planning to shoot video as well. His little feet piddle-paddling in the ball and going wherever he wanted, bumpng into walls until his little foot gets caught in the slit. Another episode of When Good Times Go Bad. hmm, ive never tried the stairs before.

I created a simple "playground" for mine in a 58qt tub. They LOVE wondering around & being adventurous! I change it around every once in a while, so they think it is a new environment to explore. It is also very safe, I don't have to worry about watching every minute. Here's a pic:

Yeah, my leos are spoiled....

That is cool! :D
I've been thinking of making connecting "rooms" coming off the main encloser.
Stuff like a dinning room (a place where the crics CANT HIDE!!), and a play room.
Now that I am comfortable making holes in glass, all I need is the space! (which I dont have :main_no: )

My leos play toy is me. They love to crawl all around me and on me. They love to hide in my shirt and pockets. I take them out when ever I am on the pc, which is everyday. I just let them wander on me. :D
