Gecko Deck

Hi,
A little while ago I decided to give my gecko a little more room to move around, so I made a very simple second level. I just went to a craft store and bought one sheet of balsa wood and a square stick for the legs. I cut the sheet to the correct size, cut the legs, and glued. He gets up on it by climbing onto his moist hide. I was going to build stairs, but it would have just taken up more room. He seems to enjoy it and it was really easy to make.

All resulting in a very happy gecko

I like it, but is it possible for your leo to escape using it for leverage to reach the top?

I was worried about this for a little while, but it doesn't seem like he can. I kept the deck as low as possible to try to prevent this. He can now get closer to the top, but still has nothing to grab onto to get all the way out. I have seen him attempt to get out, but just slides on the glass.

That deck makes your setup look perfect! I like your leo too, very cute! How long is your leo anyways?

Thanks! he is about 9 inches and 70 grams. I think he is still going to grow some more because I have only had him for 3 months and at most was 1-2 months when I got him.

I have had my leo get out from the deck but that was because I left the top open accidentally. It shouldn't be a problem as long as the top is closed. Wouldn't you know the very next time I opened the top, he was up on the deck trying to get out.

I have a hide on the deck and am using 2 tiles for the "floor" so I can sandwich a mini UTH there and provide upstairs heat.

Quick question for you: has having the wood in there help produce more scent? I built a loft in my tank as well, but used a 10x13 tile and pvc pipe for legs, because I was afraid wood would add smell. He's very cute b.t.w.

I have not noticed any smell. The balsa wood really doesn't have much of a scent. Some other woods may have a smell like cedar, but as far as balsa wood, I haven't noticed anything.
