My leopard gecko is 10 months old and has been eating as normal up until an about a month ago and since then he hasn’t eaten much other than 1-3 locusts every few days. He hasn’t lost any visible condition and I weighed him today and he weighed 91g. Almost every time I offer him food he tries to climb up my arm which is holding the tweezers with the food or the wall which is a very new thing for him to do. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this or ways i could help him? Thanks!

Hello. I am quite new to owning a gecko (at it for 1 month) and can't offer any personal solutions so my advice shouldn't be taken as gospel, but just as another perspective. It could be that the gecko is not very engaged with the food or method of feeding. You could try offering a different kind of food and see if they take more interest, or maybe drop the food inside to see if they would engage more in eating if they actually got to "hunt" the food. Time when the feeding takes place should also be considered as I would assume they would prefer to feed during hours when they are more active, I prefer to feed my gecko around 8 - 10 pm. You can also check if your gecko may be sick, which I believe most do by checking around their pores for discharge or bumps. Finally, I am pretty sure that geckos become more lethargic during colder parts of the year, so that could be considered. Hope any of that helped.

I think all of the ideas of the poster above make sense. How often do you feed your gecko? I feed my adults twice a week and at this time of the year many of them aren't eating much.

I’ve been feeding him every other day so maybe I should start reducing that. I’ve been offering other foods and he still hasn’t taken but yesterday I bought a wide variety so I can test out the different ones. Even when I leave the food in there for him to hunt he doesn’t show interest in them. Moving forward I’ll try your suggestions and see how it goes. Thanks!
