Not to mention if it gets caught up on that light. If I were you, I'd get the light outta the enclosure. Otherwise you may wake up to "gecko well done"!:main_no:

LOL, they cant smooth surfaces like glass but if they can get their little sharp claws to grip on something, they can climb. I had one climb up and over a tank divider. You may want to remove the back wall on the cage, so it doesent fall and hurt itself.

Man, you guys are paranoid... In the wild, geckos climb and fall... You would be surprized how resistant reptiles are to injuries... In captivity, owners seem to feel the need to "protect" animals in their care by not providing certain natural elements in the encloser like climbing spots... All they really need from us is to provide them with proper temps, humidity, food, water, and on rare occations, vetinary care... Not protection inside the cage...

As far as the light goes, its fine the way it is... The gecko will not "cook" itself on the lamp... I have kept lots of snakes and monitor lizards in enclosers with the lamp inside for many years and have never had an issue...

I beg to differ. I know first hand how much a lamp can heat up a fixture, and I wouldn't feel comfortable with the gecko that close to it. My $.02!

Beg all you want... LOL It cant change what I have learned or experienced from over 20 years of keeping reptiles... Not to mention the other people on this and other sites who have kept reptiles in similar conditions without a single issue...

Exactly, my gecko loves to climb, that is why my cage is multi-demensional. Though he has never fallen...yet, I will continue to keep the cage the way the cage is. I even have sturdy vines in the cool side of the tank cause he likes to sleep on them. There is even one of those reptile hammocks in his tanks. So though a leopard gecko is incapable of climbing certain surfaces, doesn't mean they don't like to climb. Also when my gecko is climbing around his tank, he is always entertained, and be all means, I am not going to let my gecko sleep all day and be bored, when i can make his cage setup set to what he likes doing.

So to comment the actual pic, I think that way genius how your gecko will go to all measures to get a sneaky li'l cricket :):main_thumbsup:

Our geckos can be jumpy sometimes and to love to climb, infact one of their poo spots is the highest hide in that cage. Ive had a 5-7 month old female jump from a height of almost 6ft, and then run for her life for the nearest dark crevace, totally unharmed.

Wow. i can already see where this thread is going. i think we should all just agree, that some of us like to have a 3 dimensional housing setup and have never had issues with it, and some of us (no problem admitting i fit in here), feel safer not allowing our geckos to climb, on the off chance they may fall and land wrong, possibly saving us a trip to the vet's office.

ive fallen off my bike many times in my 15 year of riding with no problems, but i once fell off it in my driveway and broke my wrist. accidents happen, but i like to try to avoid them whenever possible. and thats where i stop talking!

Cant we all just get along :D
