Giants...

I'm curious if Giants and super giants were popular like normal sized geckos. I have one giant and love him and wouldn't mind maybe getting into different morphs. I never see them anywhere. My guy is the first and only one I've ever seen and I bought him on the spot. I know they have a shorter life span, but what else is there to know about them? Are they identical to normals except how much they eat?
I read they can be bred to normal sized geckos, but that doesn't seem safe to breed a male weighing 104 grams to a female weighing 50 or 60.
Just curious about any info/experiences you've had with them.
Thanks!

Giants and super giants are starting to get more popular and are readily available, made by ron tremper and they can breed just fine with normal sized geckos with no problem,I have a few available on my website,pm me if you are interested.

Do they have a shorter lifespan? I thought I read on Ron Tremper's website that he believed that they have the same lifespan as normal sized geckos. I know Moose died at an early age though.

Moose was an exception to the norm. Most giants live the normal life span of any leopard gecko with correct care.

Compared to some of the other morphs out there, Giants were produced earlier than a lot of other morphs. They are just starting to gain popularity now and I see a bright future for them and some nice combos.

try designergeckos.com (Ray), geckosetc.com (Steve Sykes), west coast leopard gecko, leopardgecko.com, or frankensteinexotics.com They all have giants (and some have super giants) available. I've done a lot of business with the first two gentlemen and they're both VERY helpful and will answer any questions you have.
Good luck! :)

Have giants been around long enough to determine that?

Nope. Very few morphs have been around long enough for that...its all based on presumptions/ "educated" guessing. I would say anything that affects the size of a gecko will have an effect on its life span (it does in every other animal).

I agree, it's likely the giants will have shorter life span than normal geckos, due to the size. That's how it is in most other animals, as Travis said, because their bodies have to work harder to keep them going.

Giants were very popular when they were first released, but due to confusion of the genetics, a lot of people lost interest. It was said first that giants were recessive, which they obviously are not. It was then said that they are co-dominant, which they may be, but there are a lot of people who don't believe this either.

I believe, and hope, they are becoming more popular as more become available in the trade. Like some of the other posters said, with the misinformation that was out when they were first released, people lost interest. I also think that with not being able to 100% accurately identify them when very young, it makes it a little more difficult for potential buyers to want to spend the money on something that may or may not be a giant. As we see more super giant breedings where the genetics can be guaranteed, I think the popularity and availability will increase. Thats just my thoughts anyway.
