I am curious about what people think about bio-engineering the genome of the leopard gecko to radically change various phenotypic traits...
Selective breeding has it's dangers; like an accumulation of mutations which ultimately leads to neurological problems, like with enigmas and other inbreed morphs. What I suggest is a safer way of manipulating gecko DNA is to introduce foreign sequences of DNA , via bioengineering, to create the desired product. This will allow us to avoid the accumulation of dangerous mutations.
For Example: Would you buy a leopard gecko that was engineered with the Green Florescent Protein [GFP extracted from a jellyfish], so that he would glow in the dark!? I would buy two so I could breed them :main_yes:
Its been done with mice, cats and dogs, even glowing fish and axolotls are available for sale... This is the next frontier of gecko breeding!
