Go away Ike!

After a super long day of boarding up windows yesterday in the heat I almost wanted Ike to give us everything he's got. Late last night we were pretty sure it was going to turn East and not be a direct hit at the coast...nope! The damn thing isn't supposed to hit for another 9 hours and water is already coming over Galveston's 17ft. Seawall. :main_no: It's only a Category 2 which is good but the storm surge is a Category 4 so the flooding may be ridiculous with the possibility of tornadoes. We're 40 miles inland from the Coast and 20 miles to the west of the Bay but only 5 miles South of the Port of Houston. The stupid storm surge is supposed to funnel all the way up the bay then to the Port. :main_thumbsdown: Our house hasn't flooding it it's 58 years so hopefully it doesn't start now! It's going to be a long ass day!!!!!

Thanks for all the well wishes, we really appreciate you guys thinking about us!

People here are so fucking stupid. They just showed a couple in Galveston sitting on the edge of a jetty with the walls of water splashing over them and giant pieces of debris collecting all over the beach. Not just water bottles and stuff, pieces of plywood, huge boards with nails sticking out of them... Even the news anchor said, "Well if they get swept out into the ocean at least they'd go fast!" LMAO

Hope it all goes away soon! Seems like there have been more storms this year - although maybe it's just that I've been paying closer attention.

Stay safe!!

Rant......
FEMA sucks, Gov. Perry sucks, and the stupid President can bite me. Oh and Centerpoint Energy can bite me too. Our zip code had the worst damage in Pasadena and a large percentage of the poles are down. A lot of people here aren't as lucky as us and don't have the means to buy a generator. There's no power so there's no food or gas. FEMA can't get food and ice for people 4 days after the storm ended! Centerpoint said last night that the areas most affected will be the last to get power (ie. Southeast side aka us). Our friends helped us out yesterday and drove 70 miles each way for gas. Shell's filling station is running on generator power at the end of our street so we're watching gas trucks file down the street 24 hours a day. They haven't allocated any gas for this area though. The whole situation has been poorly handled on the state and federal level. There are going to be a bunch a scandals that no one will probably ever hear about. The federal govt declared Galveston Island a no fly zone until after they could get recovery crews in. They didn't want the media to capture the images they did in Katrina or document the slow response time. That's never happened after a natural disaster in our "free" country. Argggg

Rant over.

That totally sucks. :( I would like to say that I'm surprised, but unfortunately, I can't say that.

My thoughts and well wishes are with everyone affected by the hurricane.

I had a strong feeling this was the case. FEMA is a disgrace. God help us if we ever have a nationwide disaster of any magnitude.

If you guys can think of anything Steve and I can do for you please please do not hesitate to ask.

That just sucks, Mel! I'd have to agree that unfortunately it isn't surprising - but you'd think after Katrina they'd try to do a better job with the relief effort - not just a better job covering up their suckiness. :main_no:

Hope you guys are hanging in there ok!

Thanks for the support guys. Sometimes you just have to yell ya know?! We're totally fine. A little bored but fine. We've been lucky enough to get plenty of gas for the generator so all of our food is fine. We were able to order feeders today so every bodys bellies will be full tomorrow.

Power is slowly starting to come back on around the city I don't know how it looks for us though. There were poles down a couple of streets away (in Houston) that they put back up this afternoon so we got excited. When we came home from our friends' house this evening they had stopped working on the lines at the Pasadena city limit (the end of our street), there's still tin roofing wrapped around those lines. So close yet so far! LOL
