I say get one gecko and see how it goes from there. You can't ask the community what will be a project you will enjoy working with and expect to get your answer. Spend some time with a couple without intentions of breeding and see what gets YOU going.

:main_thumbsup: And maybe avoid enigma morphs only because they can be harder to care for.

This is true about enigmas. I have a very healthy male tremper snow enigma but only from a bit of more intensive care than the high yellow female. He is a bit finicky of an eater and only after lots of practice I was able to get him to take mega worms from tweezers when he didn't want crickets. Also you have to watch out for enigma syndrom which will make care that much harder. Look it up on YouTube. They can do what's dubbed "star gazing" where they stare up kind of blankly. Walk in circles and have trouble with striking acurracy when they eat leading to more hand feeding. From what I understand it's a sort of metabolic disease but I'm not 100% on the details.... That's just what could possibly come from the enigma morph but I lucked out on mine... But I'd he breeds who knows if it will show up in the offspring.
To kind of answer your question tho. If you want to go designer look then some lower cost ones to loom at would be something in a jungle bell or the sort since they are becomin easier to find. Or for cost specially for a first gecko a high yellow is a good starter.... But like enigmatic says start small and make sure you can handle it and enjoy it. Trying to jump in to a breeding colony you might find your self quickly in over your head. Specially if they breed them you'll have more and more. Start small make sure you really enjoy it. Get to know the needs and wants and then branch out. It's how I started and im glad I did

yea I agree, why don't you just buy one to start off with, if you have never had a leopard gecko before, you need to learn how to take care of them, and I wouldn't suggest breeding until you know how to take care of the geckos first, then research, and after a couple of years of experience then maybe try breeding

Honestly you probably wont like the answer you get. If youve never had leos before dont overwhelm yourself. 5-7 is a lot of mouths to feed, a lot of cages to clean and a lot of time involved. These are all things people dont think about. Also what are you.going to do with the babies IF you do decide to trt breeding. Is there a market for the morphs you produce? Do you have a local vet that will take reptiles. These are ALL factors to think about. These are LIVING CREATURES. Just saying what most people will tell ya. Its a lot to think about. Think about it first.

yea... these guys obviously know what they are talking about, cause they took the words right out of my mouth, start with one, get a little bit of experience under your belt before you jump into a 5-7 gecko project just to make sure you have the dedication.

If I were you, and I were serious about breeding, I would start with high quality leopard geckos. Take the money you would spend on 7 geckos, and invest in three geckos from a reputable breeder.
The Urban Reptile sells breeder bundles. You could check them out.

I think katie_ nailed it. Invest in a FEW high end animals to start out with if you're serious about getting into breeding.

My friend and I got into corn snakes around the same time. She snapped up a bunch of pet store/craigslist animals while I saved up for two high end animals and waited for them to grow up. Now she has a bunch of the most common morphs, and struggled last year to sell the babies at $10 a pop. A bunch of them ended up at a local pet store because they didn't sell. I have a sizable waiting list for my babies this year, and I don't regret that I don't have a bunch low-end animals and a zillion low end babies that will end up in pet stores because I can't find them homes.
