That is pretty easy - where would I get damp moss from? I'm going to try and get some on my lunch in about an hour and a half :D (after spending most of today looking at geckos lol).

Does it not matter that the moist hide wont be dark? I mean would he not mind that people could see straight in? The moist hide I've got for the others is dark and you can't see in... see below...

I get my moss from the local rep shop ~ can buy it either 'wet' or in dried blocks which need soaking.

mine all use clear ones and they're fine .. infact there's several that'll sleep all day in them lol ~ and it's never stopped the females from laying in them or made them lay in other places either ;)

Right now we have 22 adults and juvies that I wouldn't get rid of for anything, 8 hatchlings and 10 eggs cooking.I also have 1 crestie,1 morning gecko and my spoiles rotten beardie. I am definatly an addict, lol. I use the small diaper wipe boxes for humid hides also. My husband disguises them for me with food, bark or rocks. They work well. We used the medical gloves when Akasha was sick and they made things alot easier. I also went through a ton of hand santitzer....but we still do that.

I paid £15 for the gecko in the end. Down from £40. Sorry British Pounds :D

Yeah I know... Unfortunately over the weekend he seemed to have got worse... Taking him to the vets tomorrow morning (only time could get off work) and he has eaten but not a lot (about 1 meal worm a day, if that) and he has produced 3 stools in 3 days, they're all brown with slight green tinge to it and quite runny :( - not good I don't think. Spent all weekend in tears, feeling incredibly helpless :(

just make sure to save the fecal samples, and take those to the vet along with him. That way he can test them for parisites.

If you have looked really hard for one that does specialize in herps, and you can't find one. It is better to take it to a vet, whether or not they do or don’t specialize in herps. They should have some basic knowledge, and it is better than doing nothing. You may also want to give the nearest vet clinic to you a call, and see if they know anybody who does deal in herps, that is in your generally proximity.

Thanks Nicholas, I rang a local vet to me earlier and she said that they only specialise in cats, dogs etc but said she would ring the Lab that provide the tests and find out for me. She called me back like 10 minutes later to say that they will do it for me and just test for parasites, she said that they may not be able to help with treatment but will determine what's wrong with him. I also don't have to take him in personally, just a stool sample. Doing it this afternoon (managed to get this afternoon off work), so going to do that and also get some wax worms and try him on that.

I feel so sorry for him, I have managed to get the skin stuck to his face off but because of previous bad sheds and the bad treatment he received in the petshop he has lost almost all his toes. He also seems to find it really hard to walk - looks really wobbly :( :( Feeling incredibly helpless but on a plus note he is at least trying to eat and has produced stools to get sampled :) I have only kept 1 of the stool samples so hopefully this is enough.

Yeah, well that is great that, they will help you. I guess just save any other stool samples that he give you. The more you give them, the better chance they will have to figure out if anything is wrong with him or not.

I feel like maybe I would've been better off leaving him in the petshop - doesn't seem like he's getting any better, just worse :( If he does have parasites, what would the medication be? And how long does it take to clear this up? - if you know?

Also I told you that I reported them to the RSPCA, anyway they rang me this morning to say that they will be investigating this straight away (after I sent pictures of the gecko) :) So that's good :)

I seriously doubt that he would be doing any better in the pet shop. You are giving him much better conditions to live in. Even if he doesn’t make, I would hope you at least feel better, knowing that at least for a while he had a much better life than he would have any other place (especially the pet shop). You have given him a much better chance though, and you seem to be taking every step that needs to be taken, to ensure that he at least has a good chance at life. And a much happier life at that.

If he does have parasites, what would the medication be? And how long does it take to clear this up? - if you know?

It depends of what kind of parasites he has. He may have more that one; I see that as very possible. Each parasite will take a different amount of time to clear up. I have no idea what kind he has, that is why it is best to take him to a vet. I wouldn't even be able to tell you the medication to use. It may take a week to clear up, it may take a year. If the vets can tell you what he has, and give you medication, they should tell you how much to give him, when to give it to him, and the approximate time it should take for the condition to clear. I know when I take in fecal samples to my vet, I also have the weights written down. That way they can calibrate the volume of medication, to the gecko properly.

Also I told you that I reported them to the RSPCA, anyway they rang me this morning to say that they will be investigating this straight away (after I sent pictures of the gecko) So that's good

That is good, I hope they at least give them a fine, maybe they will learn the lesson somehow or another. I wish pet stores like this where just shut down entirely, though.

Let us know what the vets say though. My fingers are crossed.

Well I've just had a nose on the Internet (oh so busy at work) and looked up all his symptoms, lethargy, diarhea, anorexia, lack of eating, lack of movement, sluggish movements - and it all comes up with parasites. I just hope it's treatable.

Will let you know - thanks for all your help :) Managed to keep my chin up with your help :)
