What is a good non-electric heat source?
In the winter, my mom is against heat mats that goes under the tank, and still is (says they are a fire hazard) , so I did heat lamps in the winter. In the summer, they have no heat source...my room is as hot as it is outside. I Now she is going against the lamps on all the time (just happened last winter, out of all 8 years I had leos), and has been turning them off herself, risking their lives, and I need another source for the winter, since my room will be the temp. outside. Also I am a student, so I get up at eight in the morning, and does not come back until very late, due to work study. And heat lamps have had failures. No deaths, but they were very cold.
I know there is heat tape, but how does that work? Is it air activated? How much heat does it give? Will my geckos be warm enough with heat tape alone? My room in winter is as cold as it is outside. I live in the midwest, so it can get to the negatives in January...it doesn't snow until Feb. for some reason, but it is still cold. Also what other heat sources are there? I need a strong one.
