Grading Mack Snows

I thin by taking another picture of him would help. I have some outstanding snows with no yellow on them. I am always looking for a back up male,. I know that a "B" bred to a "C" grade can produce "A" offspring, however phenotype does play a part in genetics as well.

These are the Mack Snows we are talking about, in case you did not know. You should be able to get Macks thats stay white from even yellow ones. This male I pictured came from a Blizzard(so is het for Blizzard), he is the "nicest" Mack I have, so yea even with only one Snow parent you can make nice ones.

I do hope breeding the more white ones together will result in more white Macks, but it does not seem to work the same way the linebreds work. It seems more random, but who knows for sure. Not me.

Forgot to mention, I do know I also have the "Pastel" gene, so maybe that has something to do with most of my other Macks yellowing out. But yep he was my nicest!

This is the kind of snow I like. We got him from Steve at Geckos ETC. Have big hopes for him next year.

I'm curious as to how you would grade these.

Here's my Female Mack Het Bell, she is almost completely black and white, she just has a very slight hint of yellow.

Here is the male I am breeding her to, a Mack Het Bell, he has more yellow than her, but he is still gorgeous.

And, of coarse, they both came from my big Mack Daddy :)

I'm just curious, but correct me if I'm wrong wouldn't it be easier to grade them if there was say an idea of what exactly the perfect Mack is?

You're going to get some nice Snow Bells from them! I'd give the female an A and the male a B.

Dan, I'm gonna say B for yours now. What was I thinking when I said C?!

Speaking of the Pastel gene... It's going to be interesting to see how this Snow Bell turns out.

Nice ones! See even Jeanne`s female has a tiny yellow tint in the picture. She looks pretty white to me otherwise.

I need, a freakin` floodlight in my house for taking pictures. LOL

Is it losing yellow as it grows, or gaining it?

I can't wait to hatch a Snow Bell, and a Super Snow Bell :)

It's gaining the yellow color. I think this one is going to be very bright yellow like the father as opposed to the muted yellow of the rest of my Macks.

I'm with ya on the SS Bell, but mine will be a ways off still. Out of nine babies from Mack Snow Pastel het Bell x Bell I only got two Macks and they both look like males. I'm not disappointed though because I got some cool stuff from them. Dad is going in with another Bell as soon as I get another rack. Hopefully I'll get some females from that pairing.

:main_yes: Now if we can just get ten people to agree on that.:argue: :furious3:

:main_laugh:

I`m Kidding!

I allready think the Super Snows are the most "perfect" ones, though there are a few Macks(like Jeanne`s female) that also fit the description.

Ok, well if supers are the most perfect, what would be the most perfect looking super? One with high contrast, normal, or faded spotting etc..?

It's all in the eyes of the beholder... I personally would like a high contrast one with unbroken stripes.

I agree. Too bad there isn't a breed standard with geckos like there is with dogs. Mabye a color grading scale like they use for diamonds lol

I personally think that the "Grading" would be breeder specific. If the breeder likes Yellow, then the A grade would go to the Yellow Macks. If the breeder likes White, the A grade goes to the White Macks. Or if the breeder likes Yellow Jungles, not Yellow Normals... You get my drift. There wouldn't be a way to get people to agree that the whiter the animal is, the higher of a grade it should get -- some people just don't like white, and some just don't like to conform to standards! Lol

However, personally I think it is a good idea to either state "A Grade Mack Snow", or just price it more due to it's phenotype and explain why it is priced just under the $200 Super Snow you see down the street.....

Same here, and I like the very random spotted ones. Any Super Snow w/ very thick/BOLD black stripes or spots really grabs my attention. The ones w/ tiny spots not so much.

Everyone`s taste is different when it comes to these.

The only bad thing about SS Patternless is they look very similar to SS Blizzards. It's going to be confusing once there's a lot of them on the market. For example Shelly from www.lizardlair.net hatched a SS ''Blizzard'' from Macks she didn't know were hets and she has been trying to prove him out. Although she bred him to a RWPA and got no Patternless, but got Patternless when bred back to his mother so he's at least a het. The only part about it that boggels my mind is that she didn't get any Blizzards when he was bred back to his mom. Bad odds I suppose. Shelly, are you out there?

COULDNT RESIST

Ok i couldnt resist, someone mentioned super blizzards....lol Ya i agree the sspatternless and ssbliz are gonna be next to impossible to tell apart. But on the grading topic is a good idea, but as stated its in the eye of the beholder..thus there will be grading wars on this one...lol...by the way look at the baby pic of the ssbliz MAN O MAN he was cute..lol:main_thumbsup:
