Hi one of my females laid only 1 egg about 20hrs ago & she still hasnt laid the second one? I can see the bright white egg inside her & it dosent look any larger than the one she has already past & does not look stuck! Its her 1st breeding season! Is this normal? As all my other females lay them one after each other without delay or problems. Any help would be greatfull thanks. Steve.:main_huh:

You should worry when she starts acting funny. She can do it on her own...if you notice her straining, or becoming visibly uncomfortable, then you should call your vet. Otherwise, she'll lay when she's ready. :)

Put some calcium on her nose and make sure she licks it off. This can help if she is deficient and needs to calcium to induce labor.

Well, the more you fret and hover, maybe the less secure she feels...she won't lay if she isn't feeling secure.

You haven't mentioned if you're opening her box every time to check...try to imagine how disruptive that could be to her nesting instincts? I notice my geckos really like to dig around and arrange their lay box *just so* before they'll lay.

Try giving her extra-extra calcium in a dish, but mostly, let her be...I've had 3 days between eggs before, and they were fine.

Mind the other advice about her getting truly restless or aggravated, then maybe bring her to a vet...

Yer thanks for the advice! All my other females have a gud dig about2! She had a good dig when she had the 1st egg but now she's just relaxing she's been in & out the egg box & seems normal iv just never had this happen before! Now hearing that your geckos have went 3days between eggs has made me feel much better! Thanks. Iv been breeding them since 1987 & never once had this happen! I was only worryd as i lost a gravid candy corn last year even after it had been to the vets for an op! Thanks for all the help il let you all know how it goes!

Could it be the egg from the next clutch developing or is it the same size that the original egg was? I have one about to lay and it's pretty clear there's only 1 egg, but I think I see a smaller one on the other side which is the next round.

I just hope its not stuck! But she's not trying to dig or nest & she eat 3 large locust yesterday which i found strange as all my other females dont eat when they are gravid? Thanks so much for yer help!

I did read this ^^^ in Herpetoculture of Leopard Geckos: "calcium is essential for muscle activity, including contractions ofthe oviduct." It also states that some vets give an injection of calcium gluconate along with oxytocin to help stimulate contractions for egg laying in the case of egg-binding.

Is this not true??? As a novice breeder, I'd like to know some advise incase of egg-binding. (In addition to bring them to a vet, of course!) But I also know that some vets offer poor advise.

That's where I got the info from. They should be supplemented regularly but just in case your female is having problems it's worth a shot. Some females do feed less when gravid and when not properly monitored can have lowered calcium levels. My advice about them licking the calcium off of your finger or their nose was just a non-invasive way of helping them. Just a suggestion. Take it or leave it.
