Akira is on day 31. She's been looking like she was ready to pop for 2 weeks now. Up until 2 days ago she was pooping normally, but she hasn't "gone" in 2 days. She still eats like a ravenous bear though. I want to know if any of you have encountered this in breeding. If you answered "yes" to the poll could you please tell me how long it took/how your female acted. My other girls are 15 and 20 days on the dot every time they lay. Akira just has me worried.

A few of my younger girls have gone more than 30 days between clutches, but that's mainly because their ovulations weren't continuous. What kind of setup do you have with your girl? I've noticed that just keeping a girl who's ready to lay in a shoebox filled with moist coco-bedding overnight with some heat is enough to encourage them to lay. Otherwise they hold the eggs in as long as they can until they find something they consider to be suitable.

I have her in a 10 gallon with a large (takes up more than 1/3 of the space) lay box. She used it for her first clutch just fine. The tank also has two more hides, a water dish, a food dish, and a calcium dish. The lay box is on the warm side of the tank, which is currently at 95*. She spends all of her time in the hide at the cool side, which is around 85*

You're doing just fine! Some females (especially first years) like to hold their eggs until the very last moment possible. If she already laid her frist clutch in the lay box, just allow time to run it's course, and she will more than likely continue laying in there :main_yes: I believe the longest I had a female hold them was 35 days. And they hatched perfectly fine. Another reason they hold them so long, is if they are infertiles, but by the sounds of it, you've bred her.

i had one female take 40 days to lay. they where HUGE eggs.

Yeah, I can see these ones in her. They look soo big. I can already see her third clutch developing too. I'm switching her lay box substrate to coco fiber today to see if it makes a difference. I was already going to make the switch anyway, but I was going to wait until after this clutch is laid. Changed my mind lol

Mine laid her first clutch May 10th, and she still hasn't laid her second clutch. She looks ready to pop any day now, but this is her first year, so I'm not going to worry very much. So yea, you're not alone :D

Most of it's already been mentioned, but sometimes toward the end of their cycling, some of my girls will take longer, especially in the last two clutches...I've gone over 40 days as well, and I do fret, too! But hovering doesn't help, it just makes me fret more...so I try not to.

Mine have never gone over 30. But then again, I have only been breeding for 1 1/2 seasons.

I have a female who takes her time to lay... Last year she only laid 2 clutches, took her 6 weeks to lay her second clutch after laying her first. This year she's a little quicker, laying every 27 days or so. She's now on her 4th clutch.
