Baby Leos make a great deal of noise if they are in the right mood. My WC flying geckos can be rather vocal too now and then, or when you pick them up and they want to tell you all the ways they will eat your face. The Mourning geckos are always talking in their chirp, whistle and click language. The only geckos I have that have never made any noises are the Cresteds, they are so quiet.

When they are sleeping, try rubbing (or gently poking with) your finger on the side of their backs just above the rear legs. After a few seconds, they'll usually get annoyed, and make a really funny sound while shaking their heads. Sometimes they'll do it awhile awake too, but usually more when they're sleeping or drowsy.

I try not to do it too much, but it sounds so cute that I can't help it once in awhile. :main_rolleyes:

This is actually pretty funny: I had a guy from a local production company here this evening for the second time to film some footage for an Animal Planet show and one of his assignments was to get a "gecko chirping". We tried a number of the geckos --complete silence. Then I remembered Oskar who has had some respiratory issues and chirps extensively whenever he's stressed. He provided some great footage and is also very photogenic (super snow). The show, part of the "Pets 101" series, should air this fall.

I had this in my mind, and when I saw the show a week ago I remembered this post. I wondered how they got that leo to chirp so loudly, lol.

I must have the most chill couple of juvies then. They sure will scoot when they get startled but not a noise, hiss, or protest to whatever I'm doing.
Analogue wouldn't even nip at the vet when he was trying to pry it's mouth open to administer Baytril. [A drop placed on the nose worked much better]

Mine just did!
I'm trying to get the shedded skin off her toes & she started getting really annoyed with me holding her, then she made a funny sound!

Yes, Phantom hisses at me when he/she feels threatened even chirped when I gave meds. Cameron on the other hand is quiet and hasn't made a noise.

Mines Silent, but he can give you a look and make you feel like the stupidest thing in the world...He's bitten me twice accidently...Not a good idea to poke a mealworm to make it squirm when he's about to eat it....:main_yes:
I wish he did...Do they only make noises when annoyed?

I've yet to pin point which one it is, but one of my males growls at me when i first start get into the tanks, they're all quiet while i'm in them, but when i start on the bottom right side of the shelf one of the guys on the left always gives a small growl the first time the shelf moves the slightest. i know its either Flash (diablo blanco) or Sandor (striped mack snow), i imagine its flash, he seems tiny but comes off with a tough guy attitude, where as sandor's built like a tank and i imagine him as the silent type. lol

I have one that always seems to have a hard time shedding and needs to be bathed almost each time to get the remaining shed off. I think though that I have learned at least one word of the Gecko language.......She has one very distinct squeal when she know I am going to have to bath her that sounds an awful lot like F YOU! Poor girl, other than that she is very loveable.

My Super Snow is half blind, i believe. She is constantly going into her cagemates hide, an eclipse, and gets barked at almost every time. I thought they may not get along but after a week together I find them cuddled in the same humid hide every morning. I added two more humids but they seem to want the same one and are willing to share it.
