Have you ever experienced this before?
Every time a baby hatches, I put them in their own critter keeper with a water bowl (a soda bottle cap with water), and a calcium dish. There is food in there, just in case (won't bother them...mealworms).
With the two I just hatched, on day one, the first hatchling ate out the calcium dish...it was yummy to him. First he sniffed it, then started licking it, then grabbed a mouthful, and tried to gulp it down, but then sneezes it out, starts shaking, and has calcium all over the place. Then he also drank out his soda cap. Then he went to sleep in the calcium bowl. The same thing happened with the second one.
Another hatchling I had ate two days after hatching. It chased the food for a while, and took a bite of it, and continued eating. The next day, it had it's first shed. Two weeks later, she ate superworms.
Is it good for them to eat, even if they haven't had their first shed, and do you think that the calcium is good for them? (Mine has D3, but I didn't want him to overdose, so I took it out.) Hasn't anyone else experienced this before?
