Have you ever gone to a reptile forum site where just about everyone that makes a post is about as smart as your shoe lace???:main_laugh:

I have been to two of them so far... It is fustrating when you are trying to give people info and someone tries to correct you... This would not be a bad thing if the person trying to correct you actually knew what they were talking about...

I really need to stay away from some forums... I know why there are no good people on those sites... I swear there are only like 4 forums that are worth something and this is one of them ofcorse...

I want to just snap sometimes on those silly forums but then I would not be any better than the bad advice givers...

I just get pissed when you make a post and some little jerk has an answer that has no backing or isnt even correct...

I know EXACTLY what you mean. I post on one of the forums I'm sure you're talking about. Somedays, I see the titles of the threads and just immediately close the window. I do however feel bad for people with legitimate questions who receive either bad information or a mixed response so I try to help out where I can. But again, there are many days it's not even worth the energy to respond.

Gregg, I've flatout removed from my bookmarks a couple of sites that were just too friggin worthless to attempt to be of assistance to the membership.

You can't be responsible for all newbs, they've got to learn some on thier own.

Of course, that's a judgement on my part. LOL

What's even more frustrating is when I get so many emails from members of those forums asking for 'expert' advise because they followed the opinions of the members and ran into critical problems, and then they argue with me when I try to help.

I have the link this THIS website in my email signature, and have seen many of those people come over here. That's the good part!

repticzone.com is one of the "gems." I don't waste valuable time and energy there anymore, its full of 14 year olds who think they've done this since the beginning of time and won't have it any other way.

LOL, A couple times. I remember one forum that yes the questions where very basic but the answers where worse, the question was about substrate for Pandinus imperator(emperor scorpion) and people were responding and suggesting sand, I almost fell out of my chair. P. imperator needs high hummidity, they are a tropical species, they dont live in th desert like you see in stupid movies. So after I posted the correct info, one of the people that suggested sand, replied and said well we dont know much about inverts here, were a herp site. I said thats fine but dont give out info you have no clue about, point that person to another site or something.

LOL... septiczone is one of the sites I am talking about...LOL...
I am actually not allowed to post there anymore... I got booted because some of the little fairy members thought I was too harsh and I did not say enough nice things... LOL

But the other one that inspired me to write this post is just as bad only I did not get booted from it, YET!!! LOL Thalking to these people is just as good as talking to the oak tree in front of my house...

Its like the people on there like the mods or the "experienced keepers" get very threatend by someone who actually has some knowledge and experience... Its as if someone might actually hurt their chances of being the forum god...

Was this recent? You? Harsh? LOL

You've calmed down a lot, and are much more laid back than you once were. We've butt heads on that in the past, but you're a good guy and mean well, and it took me a while to figure that out. But after being on fauna for a while it doesn't take long to start feeling the frustrations that you let out in your posts. :main_evilgrin:

I think a lot of it is they deal with a lot of people who are given the typical pet store advice. They feed on being right and cutting down newbies. Someone will post a picture of their gecko and surely, one of the first posts afterwards is asking what substrate or what temperature/thermometer they're using, when all they wanted to do was share a picture. It's definitely a different place and makes you love this forum a whole lot more.

Yeah, its the old age kickin in... I dont have the energy anymore...LOL:main_laugh:

I am glad you found out I am not a big mean jerk...LOL

Val, what is the deal with the thermometer thing over there??? LOL

It just bothers me when I see posts like "You NEED 3 hides per leo" or "The humid hide NEEDS to be on the hot side".... How about "You NEED to use a digital thermometer"... I have been using mercury thermometers for years and they are pretty damn accurate...

It is fine to suggest things like that but the fact is it is all a matter of preference, not husbandry fact...

Well the fact of the matter is we all need to remember people are at different levels. While I never preached it there was a point where I actually beleived what I read was the optimal care. I thought i had to be within 2 degrees of X, have so much humidity, etc. . . .as the years wore on and I got lazy I learned that some things are harder to kill then I was lead to beleive . . .and others were easier.

I once tried explaing that a animal that I obseved in the wild didn't live the way someone was claiming. They didn't beleive me, but there really wasn't anything I could do. I also had the experience of assuming someone else was wrong and finding out they were actually right. X species did like to climb . . .

I guess at this point I know enough to stop if someone doesn't want what advice I can give as well as being prepared that what I'm doing is wrong in some ways.

They are mostly against those dial stick on therms because they don't measure substrate temps and aren't all that accurate. I think since they do get so many new owners that it's easy for them to give one set of advice that is relatively fool proof. Can't screw up a digital thermometer..

or can you? :main_laugh:
