Help Needed With Sexing Amber!

Hey all,

I’ve had Amber for almost a month now and she’s my first leo. I say “she” but now I’m not so sure. The pet shop told me they thought Amber was a she. Recently I’ve noticed signs of possible hemipenal bulges under the tail. However, although preanal pores are visible they are not well defined. I was thinking that this could be because the underside of Amber is rather pale? But still, I would have thought that if Amber was male the pores would be more obvious. I think it is also necessary to mention that Amber is about 5 months old. I apologise for the picture quality, as it had to be taken from the underside of a container. Amber is still a little funny about being picked up. Please help!

Thanks,

Dakota

I believe amber is a little boy. Give it another month or so and you will know. Sometimes females develop little bulges, but that looks beyond anything I've seen on a female.

it is a female ,I don't see any pores at all and the bulges are not nearly big enough and some females will have small bulges.

Hey guys, thanks for the comments so far :) Anyone else have a different opinion? We have...

Male - 1 vote
Female - 2 votes

Hmm, I should have set up a poll.

That looks female to me. I have 2 month old boys that are DEFINITELY boys...very visible bulges. If you can get a picture from the side, sometimes it's a little easier to see. I would think at 5 months the bulges would be much more prominent on a boy, but I've been wrong before!!!

The bulges indicate male but it is hard to say. I have a male sunglow that you have to look at with a magnifying lass to see the pores...no black dots. But the pores are there, they can be tough to see on some albinos.

This is getting interesting lol. Although, still no certain answer :/ Amber does have pores, but they're just not defined. I would have thought the pores would have been more defined by now. But the bulges are starting to become more and more obvious recently. Thanks for the replies so far, keep it up guys, some more opinions would be great :) Also, I'm not 100% sure of the age. I'm just going by what the petshop thought; and even they didn't know. But amber weighs 30 grams now :D Also, Amber is a SHTCTB.

Thanks,

Dakota

It could be either way. It could be just a buldgy female with pronounced dimples or a late developing male.

The only way to really tell is if you can look at the "pores" with a loupe or a magnifying glass and see if they are actully pores or just dimples.

I think it might help if we had a clearer picture. The one posted is blurry at the top, where the pores would be. The bulges aren't as pronounced, but still present. Could we get another picture?
