We hatched out first of the season and he doesn't seem right..... he seems as though he was curled backward in the egg. Will this straighten out? Or will I need to take other measures?

I mean, even if by some miracle it did, chances are, there is more deformations/abnormalities on the inside as well. If it were me, i would definitely cull.

Someone on another forum had a baby that was also bent backward (I can't tell if it was similar because it's hard to make out much from your pictures). She kept it and a day later it had completely straightened out and was fine. I think we play the "hidden abnormalities" card way too much especially since there's really no way to know. If it's still alive, keep an eye on it for a few days and see what happens.

i agree with everyone, cull or watch it for a few days. worst case you have to cull it. but maybe it will straighten up. the pic looks fresh out of the egg so it might straighten.

I agree entirely. Upon further examination I realized this isn't just a kink, he is actually formed that way. Much to my dismay I will be culling this poor thing. Just sucks since its my first of the season and it shows all the traits of the RAPTOR.

Hopefully my other eggs turn OK. I was just happy it hatched. Was the females first egg, and we had some issues with heat fluctuations that have since been remedied.

I am so sorry you have to cull. In my opinion, though, you are absolutely doing the right thing. It takes a very strong person to be able to make that decision. In the long run, the ability to make that decision will show your ethical beliefs as a breeder.

Hopefully your changes will help remedy this situation, but if it doesn't, i'm sure you know, this pair should be retired from breeding.
